I run adaware and norton system works as well as system mechanic and McAfee Virus scan on mine once a week. That combination seems to keep me pretty clear of anything malicious. On the other hand, my wifes fathers computer was running super slow and had some sort of malicious toolbar on it that had been there for months. He isn't too computer savvy so I said I would come on over and run some spyware removal stuff for him. I ran it and it completely fucked his internet explorer somewhere in the registry to where it wouldn't run at all anymore.
I left quite an impression that day.
It's best to run that stuff in safe mode btw...

Preventive programs are better than cleaning programs.
Teatimer that comes with spybot S&D is pretty good example.
but in the end, its pretty easy not to go to warez sites, not to open attachements, not to download those smileys, not to use Kazaa(and others), not to get that free screensaver, etc....

firewall firewall firewall
occasionally, i find some program trying to sneak data in or out of my comp...helps you discover that it is there as well
as a compliment to adware/malware/spyware removal products, but after i had installed my firewall, my system appeared to have stayed clean

I have a firewall and three different spyware tools and I don't have many problems at all.

I have tons of the anti-stuff installed ..
adaware
norton firewall and antivirus
spybot search and destroy
cwshredder
hijackthis
and to my surprise there were still some of the elements installed on my systems, so tried the spy sweeper from www.webroot.com and it nailed them. Nice s/w and its a 30 day free trial too.
the best anti spyware anti adware product in the world is the microsoft one
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en)

I use Norton SystemWorks. For email I run everything through MailWasher Pro before I download it into Outlook (the full version - not Express). I haven't gotten any mean nasty crap since I got rid of AVP.
I am going to give the MS's anti-spyware tool a try, though. Thanks for the link, Meat!

I know when we were spamming SE etc , we used to have templates in reserve.
Ie..ok we are number one on this at 91% , we still have a 93% and a 96% in the wings ready to go which we will hit soon.
I am sure there are sneaky fuckers out there all ready to go.
That newspaper article yesterday for instance with adware/spyware that removed anyone elses spyware/adware.
I think it must be a constant battle between the poachers and the gamekeepers.
