I do! There are so many other ways to generate traffic than worring about PR and search engine traffic.

Not really. College Sucks is a portal, but most of it's traffic comes from age. In the 7 years of it's existence, only 2 has been what you see now.

on a personal experience - i had no $$ to invest in getting my site going so i had to learn seo to get the traffic i am at the moment which whilst not huge is doing well enough for me , pr is definetly a part of that - if my pr was lower and i hadnt built up the links to my site to get that pr my listings in search engines wouldbt be worth shit to me , so personally i think pr is a good thing

As I said, there are better ways to generate traffic, as a whole lot faster. If you want to know what those are, let me know.
BTW, I started College Sucks with no traffic. 4 months ago, I started UGLY SOB with nothing, but I used the leverage of College Sucks to increase the traffic. So....
Joe's Traffic Tip of the Day: Leverage what you have to increase your traffic.
Tomorrow I'll talk about what you can do if you have nothing to start with.

hehehe My dad always says there is more than one way to skin a cat... SEO is about the easiest way to get productive traffic imho :D
I think I could make a lot more money with a small hard link on collegesucks index page for 3 months, that might send under 1 thousand clicks over that time... than I could with an advert or traffic trade spot that sent me those thousand clicks in a day.
I bet you could sell those spots where you have the causes you support rather easilly.
Do you trade or sell hardlink spots Joe?

Yes and no.
I think PR is important for getting some good trades with other webmasters that believe in it. I do consider PR when considering a link trade. However, some webmasters I know obess over it beyond belief. It's just one measure of a site that I like to look at.
Whenever I go to any site for any purpose, I always look at the PR on the G tb and the Alexa ranking as well. Neither one of these is the end all be all measurement of a site's value, but they at least give you an idea of what ball park they are in, which gives you a basis for how you might deal with them for any business purpose.

Or I could just move the "causes I support" down and sell more PPC ads -lol. The system is automated and as more advertisers join, they're put over the "causes I support" and ordered based on the rate they pay per click.
If someone wants to buy a hardlink and the price is right, I'll sell it. I'll sell anything if the price is right. But no one has asked to buy a hardlink.
BTW, I use to sell links based on term and I make more money with PPC ads.

Alexa is extremely inaccurate, and until now, I thought everyone knew that -lol. This is also the first time I've heard anyone say they look at PR and Ranking to decide if they do business with anyone, but I can see it being used.
I'm more referring to how some webmasters obsess over PR and use it for the basis for trades.

I guess a good reason why some obsess over the pr is all part of their trade strategy.
Just like you are always looking for good clean non-blind links (for traffic not PR..lol) many are out there looking for hardlink pr links. You want nonblind hits so you can keep your productivity and clicks up and they want the solid pr based sites linking to them, to fuel their listings and rankings.
It is 2 completely seperate things, trading fort traffic and trading for SEO. What value each you put on each is completey relevant to your sites goals. Both are great means of site building.

My point JizBiz that there are better and more effecient ways to traffic generation than worrying about your PR.

i think a combination of all methods is the best idea
seo - joes methods - traffic trades - linkdumps
alexa makes me laugh - it doenst rank all traffic in - when my se traffic picked up so did my rankings but some sites who are ranked similarily have triple my overall traffic so i dont take that into account
if i have a newish site and someone wants too hard link trade with me then i will take into account their pr as i want to get a good pr for my new sites other than that i dont take it onboard for trading

Yes, I do know that. That's why I said it is not the end all, be all measurement, it' just gives you an idea. It is very broad indeed.
I have a site that get 10,000 uniques a day and another site that gets 1,000 uniques a day.
10k site - Alexa = 28,000
1k site - Alexa = 16,000
Even with this disparity, you still know there is a big difference between a site with a 1.5 million, 100,000 and a 10,000 rank. Even with the inaccuracies, I'd still rather have Alexa avaiable as a tool, than not have it at all.

I may look up a site maybe once or twice a month, but if it's above 20K in the rankings, I don't consider it to be informative. Like the traffic for UGLYSOB doubled in the last two weeks, yet on Alexa it says the traffic has dropped. Pretty much both College Sucks and UGLYSOB get the same amount of traffic, but the charts are completely different....
