I shouldn't bathe in the mornings ,despite the encoragement those around me give me to do so ;-))

Because whilst Eddie reads Oprano in the bath , I start debating with myself.

Having many different Nicks in one Nick help in this matter , greatly.

And then I post my half baked thoughts on Oprano...suckers!

So here is what I have come up with this morning....Yes , It is the start of my Doctoral Thesis on "The Fucking Obvious"

1.) Its ALL about traffic
1.a) Traffic is what gets you the sale
2.) OK, Content helps and is an added bonus.
2.a) Content KEEPS the sale.

So therefore people want/ need traffic
1.) The easiest traffic to get is TGP traffic.
2.) It is the hardest to convert cause frankly its reguritated crap.
4.) The best traffic is from: SEs and Spam
5.) Spam is bad , mmmkay

Therefore why is so much of peoples time energy and resources taken up with gaining TGP traffic.

Hmmmm

1.) Its easy fast and immediate
((and I'd say now that this market is 90% made up of people who can make $100 -$200 a day from this (and from whjat I gather on the zoo these people are considered players.))
2.) They do not have the knowledge , patience or resources to work SE's
3.) Spam is bad mmmkay.

The boards out there reflect people in general.
They are all looking for the quick fix , at whats easy ,
They basically need enough money to buy a fake rolex and a digicam to take pics of said fake rolex , and...errr....some $100 bills.

EXCELLENT (said in the manner of Mr.Burns.)

The conclusion of the "Nicks"

You guys all work that TGP traffic.
Work it hard and work it long.
I shall take "the road less travelled" (fucking always remibnds me of "snowblind")

Screw you guys..the new goldmines are just over yonder...I'm going over there...you guys can stay here

And its called:

1.) Search Engine Optimisation
Come on , if WEBMASTERS search for the things they need in the first instance through search engines , so do surfers.
2.) Can-Spam Compliant Email

These 2 forms of traffic IMHO and after some effort and research are the Goldmines.

TGPs are the Saltmines.

Sure there is a living to be eeked out working the Saltmines , but not the riches you will find in the Goldmines.

Am I crazy?

Note:
a)some of these theories are based on the fact that I STILL gross more money in recurs than most TGPers dream of.
a.i.) The surfeit of board whores at reasonable rates and the realisation of how strapped for cash the majority of people in this industry are
b)Every bastard and his brother is trying to open a board cause they see money in it.
b.i)Nope , I see owning a boards main use is in networking and sharing ideas.)
c) some people think I'm clinically insane.Mainly Medical people though.Fuck em.

has anyone ever approached the filter makers and offered them a cut of the spoils?

You can get white listed by AOL etc , which really helps ;-)))

OK... so listen up sparky!!! ;-)))))

Lets do the basics here......

If finding gold was easy , every fool would do it. ("fools gold" pun intended)

Converting TGP traffic isn't easy.

I'd rather find a way of getting Can-Spam mail through filters and be the poorest of the Goldminers , than find a way of converting TGP traffic and be the richest of the Saltminers

For an approximate comparison....

A really good TGPer can make 3k a day say...approximately 100k a month.I'm talking THE TOP echelon. An Average one....say $300 a day.

A really good goldminer , can make 30k a day roughlt $1 million (muhahahahaha errrr.....sorry for that) a month.

An pretty decent Goldminer can make what a top echelon TGPer can.

Obvious ...huh?

;-)))

Well, you could be can-spam compliant if you avoided "unsolicited" email... ie:if you sent newsletters and such that the user actually DID subscribe to...

And I don't mean mailing to one of those "double optin" lists that so many people have for sale. They may have double opted in to something but if it wasn't "your program" that they doubled opted in to you are not necessarilly safe in mailing to it". I mean building your own list of true double opt in subscribers.

Yeah, that would get your message to the adult webmaster database that you got with the board, but what about building a true double opt in list of surfers...

Better yet, what if you could build a true double opt in list with a whole lot of demographic information about your audience...

But wait, you get more...

What if you could also get that audience to freely tell you

1. That they had a credit card and
2. that they are willing (or not) to use that credit card to purchase products on the net.

Hmmmm...I wonder if I know a company that has a list of double opt in CAN SPAM compliant mailers, is AOL whitelisted AND can get through the Hotmail filters? :awinky:

Add to that a separate list of those willingly taking out their credit card to register! :P

Spam might be good for your business. Spam is bad for the business. I use tgp traffic but do not waste time on it. I hate tgp's. If they disappeared tomorrow, I would not shed a tear. I hate insurance companies, but I also have to use them. Affiliate traffic is way, way too expensive. How that ever started is a great mystery. Actually not, but should be. SE is the second best traffic out there and time and attention should be paid to gaining it. My very best traffic I buy from print sources. It lasts forever. Link exchange traffic from similar web sites is awsome as well....and free. The only cost is returning the traffic. Double opt in is a crock of shit. Like someone said, they didn't opt in to your list. My mailing list is hugely profitable and is totally opt in. I nurture it and it converts extremely well because I reward my clients for subscribing.
So, in my world, traffic generation is as much of a function of content as anything else. It might not be your way, Nick. But it is very successful and has legs and quality.

Are you talking people NEW to the biz or those who are already in the biz Nick? Cause they are two different animals and while your approach is certainly more profitable, certain segments of the webmaster population just don't have the means, let alone the patience and other stuff it takes, to do it.
