If you were going to teach someone the adult internet business from the ground up....

.... where would you start?

Briefly thinking have them surf sites like a surfer, then turn them loose to build free sites. Then give them the overview of the business and important revenue generators. Then go over where they did well and where they can improve

I'd let them make some mistakes so they can learn from them

and of course send them to read Oprano

Nice answers so far

Actually she's curious about what I do and would like to try to lessen the hours I work by contributing

Normally I go by the Godfather school of thought about spouses/significant others being involved with business

Men really are so easy to figure out :P

However, and this is from experience with 3 different guys I've dated or married - you'll still be working just as hard even if she helps you. You'll be working with HER, so that's a plus, but it won't lighten your work load. You'll just find more things you can do instead of doing the things she starts doing :)

Or maybe I've just always picked workaholics, lol!

I still maintain this with my wife
in fact, she works outside the home (yeah, I know, big skeleton that my wife works, but she's a department shift manager at a casino and has great insurance, perks and we get free rooms, tickets, etc. ;-))

actually, I make enough now that she doesn't have to work but she does for her own sanity (and to save $950 per month it would cost for health insurance).

I've tried to show her some of this business, but she's just not interested and would rather pursue her own career...

Personally, I would tell them to surf, surf, and surf some more. Spend some money. Join some websites and see what is really going on behind the glitz. Stay away from boards because they are full of people struggling already. Better to follow your own creative and entrepreneurial instincts than try and sort through the dreck to find a real mentor. But number one. Have a real product to sell. You know, something that customers will pay money for. Then apply yourself to traffic.

Having done what you are thinking about myself numerous times i would say the best thing to start a newcomer to the biz off with 'work' wise are those tasks that you find somewhat tedious, updating tgps, uploading content, etc etc

Make sure there is no doubt in their mind from day one that there is a lot of work involved and, it doesnt all involve looking at naked girls or guys.

Also, because this person is a family member, you may also want to have them start building their own set of sites up on the side, we did this with Chris and he soon learnt that helping an already successfull company grow further was so much easier than starting his own set of sets.

Whatever you decide to do im sure youll choose the option that suits both of you and, if your ultimate goal is to save you 'online' time i have no doubt it will benefit you personally as well as professionally.

I don't rely on a woman. Sickboy. You really have no idea about the world do you?

"finally got my head straight (again, this time with the help medication) and pulled off a great 2004"

the meds failed. So after all that time, you actually managed to pay the rent. Good for you. A stand up guy. No more lectures, OK? :headwall:

Ok , gentlemen.

This is an interesting thread , can we go back to the discussion in hand now?

I understand how things ccan get heated , but though it may be entertaining to see a full scale piss , it is just as entertaining to see a piss over issues and subjects without it falling into the trap of personal attacks.

I'm with Nick on this one
Traffic and ways to manipulate it I found was the hardest thing to get my head around. The rest is pretty much just marketing and business principals.

Thanks for the input everyone

For now I've started by cutting her loose shopping for content. A tedious task for me but now I still get the final say and don't have to invest the time

I've done something like this years ago but didn't enjoy the final results so hopefully I'll learn from those mistakes

Traffic generation and tedious tasks both sound like winners to me
