View Full Version : We should do a competition here...

Something like....

MVP (Most valuable poster) of the Month or week.

Best Thread.

I dunno....get people to join in more.

Give like a button or banner spot to the person/thread adjudged as so?

Maybe get some other people to sponsor stuff in return for errr..."favours"

The moderating team here could pick a short list of members and threads , and then have a members vote on it in the form of a board poll.

What do you all think?

What do Opranauts think?

love it .....

to encourage new quality posters, what about something like 'best newcomer' or some kind of gimmick that welcomes new quality posters?

'best new talent in a mini series... er message board' LOL

I know t-shirts can be a bit lame, but we could be very creative with what goes on it like these ones ....

http://www.cafepress.com/oprano.11920305?zoom=yes#zoom

http://www.cafepress.com/oprano.11628124?zoom=yes#zoom

these tshirts are crap though, but something that becomes like a collectors item would rock :okthumb:

I really like their silver lunch box ... not sure if webmasters want that

I occasionally wear my board whore tank top because its special ... and funny :)

What other suggestions does everyone have for prizes? What kind of thing do you want?

Content? Hosting? Tim Tams? Stupid novelty gifts? Fun Stuff? Things to show off your oprano family status?

Thats a great idea Nick.. I like your thought on the best new poster as well CJ

we would kick in some prizes from both remotethumbs, and from siliconcanal.

Mybe someone here that does feeds will kick in some feeds and some design from a designer etc....

i have an idea for a novelty kinda prize ... but that's also useful!!

the book i'm always talking about, 'the mafia manager' ;-)))))

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=books&n=507846 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312155743/qid=1105885516/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/102-2117845-3315328?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

its $8 ... so its obvioulsly not a big expensive flashy prize LOL but does anyone here really want that? and do we want the crowd that stereo's and mp3 players attracts? of course, if you wanted those as prizes i'm sure we could get a sponsor to do this! i'd like a new mp3 player ;-)

does anyone have any suggestions for quirky prizes that are relevant to oprano such as books (di vinci code has been discussed here a lot), best new webmaster could get a subscription to klixxx (kath? raven? ;-) ), best pearl could get a book of quotes or something - ...... no, that last one sucked

anyway ..... thoughts? ideas?

like hp just said:

CJ - we're in.... Klixxx would be proud to donate a couple of lifetime subscriptions to Klixxx... hit me up on ICQ when you are firming this up - or shoot me an email.

Our #1 priority is supporting webmaster education - so donating a subscription to best newbie would be an awesome way for us to reach more new webmasters!

I don't know what you all think of books on marketing, but I've ordered a few of them from Amazon before. Some of them are kinda cheesy, but others are quite informative and inspiring.

Seth Godin is one I would recommend.

yup, Godin is good

personally, I love and think webmasters would get a lot out of books by George Soros and Og Mandino, too

fun prizes would be nice, but prizes that help further ideas, information and business knowledge would be even better, IMHO

Are you sure Nick ever muttered the words ".....and then I gave the money back?" in his lifetime?? :P

On a more serious note. I like the idea! Will certainly ramp up some interest.

Don't know if this will fly; but, I like mugs. An Oprano mug would be nice to have.

Love the subscription to Klixxx idea, cj....:)

That could definately become a great business model.

Whoever pays the most gets an award or two, oh hang on, its already been done :(

But a 'trophy' per say is in effect, what is being offered up, what form that trophy takes is all in each of our individual perceptions, i know i would rather have something 'usefull' than decorative.

great idea
I'll read any marketing book I can get my hands on ... you can always learn a new nugget or 2 even from a crap book!!

Raven, mugs are a good idea too - I don't drink coffee but those who do seem to have a favorite mug they use all the time ... cafe press mugs are not too bad, so maybe we could do them for the pearl winner and put their pearl on the mug!

Kath, thanks for the Klixxx subscriptions :okthumb:

trophy's/plaque's are a fun prize, especially for 'annual' awards ... they are a good memory if they are for stupid things, aka the player haters ball awards

does anyone know a trophy maker/store that does good work?

you'd love this one

this was made into the movie "Casino". But it is a much better read than a movie.

I love the whole competition idea, and CJ's idea of making whatever is given up as being "collectible" gives it some real value.

This is the right board for something good like this.

I reckon a REAL Oprano awards night at a show would be awesome.

Invite only of course.

He he.
