Excuse my ignorance.. but why does everyone say Vancouver for Canadian Shows?

Toronto looks like a much better place geographically to me... and I just heard Vancouver has zillions of mosquitos!

Oooh-Kay...

I have heard that vancouver is very nice... but Toronto is near New York.. wouldn't that suit a lot of East Coast webmasters nicely?

What's convenient about Vancouver webmaster wise? (I really dont know)

And you have more mosquitos than any other city in the world according to the docementary I watched... spray poison in the air constantly so you guys can breathe without inhaling them it sounded like!

Toronto is the Perth of Canada!

I've been to Vancouver countless times, and been to Toronto both summer and winter. The bugs in Toronto are there, I've never noticed them in Vancouver.

The traffic in Vancouver is worse than LA. Why? At least in LA we have pedestrians slowing down traffic on all the surface streets year round. No one can make a damn right turn. But you don't see too many pedestrians around Toronto in the winter time and it takes just as long to get around. ;)

LOL.. I'll take that to mean it's probably a REALLY lovely place.. in a "weird" location.

Just looking at a map.. Vancouver kind of looks like Perth to me.. Great weather, on the ocean, lots of "entrepreneurs" and socialites like to settle down there... but a fucking long way from the real major business centers.

It'll probably never happen, but a mid-sized webmaster gathering in Halifax, Nova Scotia, or St-Johns, Newfoundland would absolutely rock.

Damn, its either still early or I'm going daft, TORONTO has the traffic problem, NOT Vancouver.

If I hadn't moved to LA, I'd have started spending the summers in Van to beat the Phoenix heat.

We don't stop for them here in Miami. Well, depending on what part of town you're driving through.

We also have a new kickass casino near the downtown.

Over 20 poker tables... :)

vancouver is the number 1 city to live in in the entire world. not counting hastings street or main street. or half of chinatown. or surrey.

and avoid some parts of east pender/east vancouver.

hmmm...

fuck it, still a great city to live in.

if you dont count the drug dealers who deal right outside my downtown apartment.

mostly rocks and pills.

apart from all that, its nice.

mind you, it gets a bit windy by the water, but that could have been the sprouts last night

Opti, what on earth do you base this on?! a documentary about mosquito's?!

why would you want to put a show 5 hours FURTHER away from us anyway?!

i've been to both cities and toronto was nice from a tourist point of view, but boring as fuck for anything but nature viewing LOL

Vancouver is a beautiful city and great for a small webmaster gathering because everything is there on robson (?) st :okthumb:

That 'stopping for pedestrian' thing, I swear, is strictly a Left Coast thing.

Took me a while to get used to it after I moved to Seattle from Philly.

Pedestrians have the right of way in Cali, even if they are being written up for jaywalking.

Been quite a few years since I've gone to the great white north, but I've always had the impression that there's much more "adult night life" in Vancouver than Toronto.

Montreal would make a better choice on the eastern side.

Only gripe I have with Vancouver for a show is that's a long ass flight from Hotlanta.

There was the Montreal show last year - Qwebec Expo.... and I think I remember seeing something about a Toronto event too, although in all fairness it may have just been a party or small gathering.

I have to agree though that Vancouver would be more ideal for us to attend - lots more reasons to go up there... we used to vacation near Toronto when I was a kid so I had my fill up there (Storybook Gardens in London like 6 years in...a...row...), but I know there are a lot of webmasters in that area. Lots of Canadian webmasters and businesses out there though so I think either location would be well-attended.
