UPDATE 2-Halliburton wins drilling tender in Iran-official
Sun Jan 9, 2005 04:08 AM ET

TEHRAN, Jan 9 (Reuters) - U.S. oil services company Halliburton (HAL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , whose operations in Iran have come under investigation by U.S. authorities, has won a tender to drill a huge Iranian gas field, an official said on Sunday.
A U.S. grand jury issued a subpoena to the Texan firm in July, seeking information about its Cayman Islands unit's work in Iran, where it is illegal for U.S. companies to operate.

Halliburton insists it is not illegal for offshore subsidiaries, such as Halliburton Products & Services Limited, to work in the Islamic Republic, where it provides a range of services to the lumbering state oil company.

Akbar Torkan, managing director of the Pars Oil and Gas company, said Halliburton had won a tender to drill two phases of the South Pars gas field in the Gulf, which sits on the world's biggest reservoir of natural gas.

"Halliburton and Oriental are final winners of the tender for drilling South Pars phases nine and 10," he told the ISNA students' news agency.

These phases are 58 percent operated by Iranian state companies and 42 perecnt by South Korea's LG.

Iran has the world's second-largest reserves of natural gas but has been slow to develop them for export.

Washington has imposed sanctions to prevent companies doing business with OPEC's second-biggest producer, which it accuses of developing atomic warheads and sponsoring terror networks.

Tehran denies the charges and says it has no objection to working with U.S. firms.

That should help them cover the fine from their earlier middle east business
Halliburton came under fire in the early '90s for supplying Libya and Iraq with oil drilling equipment which could be used to detonate nuclear weapons. Halliburton Logging Services, a former subsidiary, was charged with shipping six pulse neutron generators through Italy to Libya. In 1995, the company pled guilty to criminal charges that it violated the U.S. ban on exports to Libya. Halliburton was fined $1.2 million and will pay $2.61 million in civil penalties.

Capitalism = profit...it's real simple. If it's legal - exactly what part is there to spin? MikeAI doesn't have to spin shit.

Do you really wanna debate ethics when it comes to money, especially in this business - most of us, in all likelyhood, peddle eastern european women who's family makes 100 bucks a month...I'm sure they really enjoy those facials or huge cocks up their ass...it's that they enjoy their work. Has nothing to do with exploiting or taking advantage of economically deprived cultures.

Change the laws...and get your resume ready...I hear target is hiring.

It is illegal for an American company to do business in IRAN...

so what's your point?

The other thing that might be interesting to discuss is how a company that employs many former US governement officials is actively working to circumvent measure put in place by said governement...

Also, arent the people helping the terrorists the enemies of the USA? Isnt Iran part of that oh-so threatening and terrorist friendly axis of evil?

Without taking sides on anything, it definitely is an interesting topic. You can prevent having to do any real thinking by saying "Its capitlism, and its great", or you can try and see the different angles...

There is no point actually - they're just spouting lip service...if you take a look at what they're whining about.

Is it illegal for a company to do business with a company that does business with Iran?

Beasty is generally considered Illegal in the US...are these folks gonna stop or demand others/their affiliates stop submitting galleries/buying advertising from the hun cause he allows beast?

That would be a truly moralistic statement. They'll never do business with any company that does business with another company that deals with things that might be illegal in your country....

Better yet, which of you true blue fuckers will return all your dialer charges from Iran? Hypocrisy is hillarious.
