I need to hear some...

I need details!!!!

Not just:
"No Ibill"
"Leenoga's crew are spending money"
"smaller than usual"

I need to know who did what to whom , I need names , dates , times , and places!

It would be helpful , though not essential , if the gossip had some foundation in fact.

:)

Hi,

As far as business goes, it is absolutely the best show ever so far. Attendance is way up, the seminars we are speaking at are well attended and reformatted. Our booth has been non-stop busy all day.

We should have sent Colin on one of those - bankrupty causing (j/k) - trips he went on just before Insite went chapter 11 (or 7, or whatever number they're now, I cannot keep track of all their lawyer's letters).

At least we got a day to day summary then.

yeah while i was walking up and down the aisles I noticed tea cups and teddy bears floating past on flying carpets

AND THEN I WOKE UP!!!

it will take more than that to convince me that the shows these days are more profitable than they were in 1999 - 2001

I'm enjoying this show more then any that I can remember.

Zero cigarette smoke.

No lost luggage or needing something that I've forgotten.

My bed is just the way I like it.

No one drunk trying to trade links with me.

The weather is great and I have all my windows open.

Fuck I've gotten old, sober, and boring…

Glad to be back home....

Sometimes I'm glad it's just a couple hours' drive to put Vegas behind us.

However... saw a LOT of people I hadn't seen in years. Got to chat with old biz friends that I hadn't been able to chat with in years. Got caught up on a LOT of gossip that nobody shared with ME in years. So really, I think my Show Gossip would be a lot less interesting for those who'd already heard it before me. lol

Yes R-n was there on the floor.... incognito - many didn't even realize it was him. A lot of other MIAs returned to the Expo - and it's encouraging that most were saying "See you in Phoenix!" or "See you in San Diego!" so I think this old home week we've been experiencing here courtesy of Oprano is being extended into real life. I'm also hearing rumors of a special attendee for San Diego - I hope Gonzo isn't wrong!

Not much for me on the show floor - but had some fantastic personal meetings, lunches, dinners, drinks, casino-hopping chats and other REAL opportunities. As always - between the scheduled events, on the way to here and there - basically everything "uncharted" led to the real business to be done.

Missed lots of you (attendance seemed DOWN to me, not UP) - but am hoping to see lots more folks this spring! :okthumb:

I heard a certain webmaster with boyish goodlooks and a new haircut was rumored to have lost $50 over a game of "Guess Who's A Hooker/Guess Who's A Porn Star" at the Island Bar...the only gambling this amazingly goodlooking webmaster did the whole time...

I heard a certain webmaster also was threatened due to a conversation that went:
Girl With Big Tits: Hey baby, how's it going?
Webmaster: Good. So, you here for the show?
Girl With Big Tits: No, I'm a working girl
Webmaster: Well, how about working on getting me a beer from the bar?
Girl With Big Tits: If I had mace, you'd be on the floor crying like a bitch

Ah yes Sykk, I lost a game of spot the hooker myself... At the Venetian I can pick them out without error, but it seems that I wasn't as accurate at the Mandalay Bay. :-(

It was funny, on Wednesday night I got in around 5am, and as I'm walking toward the elevator this girl says "hey, where you going?" I said "I'm going to bed... by myself." I think she was a little insulted. heh...

damnit, I didn't even see you at the show...
I missed the NatNet party at the MGM because a couple buddies wanted to see some naked people (other than Sweet T)

I think we may have encountered that same working girl who didn't seem to be working...

my response to her was "I'm going upstairs to fuck a midget with a broom, want to join me?" she didn't seem to think that such a good idea....

Sykk, I'm sorry I missed you as well. I heard about the clean cut look you are sporting, so who knows, I might have walked right past you. :awinky:

The party at MGM was a lot of fun. That was one of Tony's typical last minute ideas (I call them wild hairs) but we managed to pull it off. Teatro at the MGM is a really cool place. It's all done in Ferrari leather. Only in Vegas. LOL

I'll have to remember the midget line. That's a good one. hahaha

Are they always girls ;)

The only thing I hate to have missed was Thursday night's after Players Ball trainwreck in the Island Lounge. You could almost smell a bloodbath coming early in the evening, with all the CES guys out for their first night of partying, the hookers and pimps en masse in the bar, all it was lacking when I went upstairs was the 4 or 5 am rolling through the hotel to the bar addition of a ton of exhausted, toasted webmasters finishing up their show.

hey, if she would have agreed to THAT, I would have hired her for the night....and searched like hell for a midget that was receptive to a little broomstick sodomy....

I wasn't necessarily turning her down, just giving her a head's up on what it would have taken to get my money....

Your on to something CJ...alot of vendors were pissed and did lousy...

But.

Some did well especially if they had something new and refreshing.

We did well because we were "new", and were quite visible and offered an open bar :-) The booth was 40x60 and flowed well.

I think your success at this show depends on several things, it is NOT all AVN's fault, trust me there :-))

Having hundreds of freeloaders drinking your alcohol doesn't a successful show make!! Talk to me in a month about how much of that 'success' has actually translated into business

But at least you are milking the bragging rights of a booth that cost quarter of a million dollars for all its worth, even if the only thing anyone remembers is the cost :okthumb:

There is a certain branding value to a booth if you're a new program and want to make a splash. Having a booth presents the image of being for real and having money to pay webmasters.

Of course, it could also mean you're forced to shave your ass off for a couple of months to recover the bill for the show.... B)

Shows are a necassary evil, and can be quite fruitful if done correctly, I agree the gaudy excess of yesteryear is no longer needed but a precense will certainly open your eyes to something new, and or revive an old acquaintance...

I think you get more bang for your buck from buying an ad here however though.

and on that note thanks to all that have signed up from here since we have ran our ad. and thanks to nick and gonzo for giving me such a good deal on it.
inabon tells me we have gotten more biz off this ad in 10 days than we did the whole first month we ran on GFY...

I would tell you the price but nick swore he would ban me if I discussed how much we paid.

certainly there is a revival of sorts in the works, and if you intend to live on laurels alone you will surely parish.

Yeah, we gotta talk about that Ron. My butt cheeks are still swollen. Though I have to admit I enjoyed it a little. :D

Btw, I see JMM reading this thread. Didn't know you were still alive, Jeff. :P

A long time friend who's been wanting to see the show since forever finally came to Vegas and I got to show him around. Everyone told him the same thing, that he should have seen it about five or six years ago. Got me thinking.

No cars, trucks, hummers, vipers, Austin Martins anywhere on the floor. No music blasting anywhere. No laser lights. No blimps. No search light things beaming logos on the ceiling. No bikini-clad nor nekkid womens ... being oiled up, jumping on trampolines, inside moon walk tents, riding bronco machines, wrestling or boxing in rings. No money grabs (where one stands in a cylinder grabbing money as it floats around.)

In many ways, very business like without the old carnie atmosphere. But in some ways, even I have to admit, while refreshing overall, a tad dull. The old feeling of something electric happening wasn't there. Guess it's the good and bad side of maturation and thinned herds. If it wasn't for the traditional flying tits at the end of the show, I might have wondered if I'd inadvertantly went to a convention for librarians.

That said, I'll still take it over the boat-peeing, window-breaking, punches-in-the-lobby, furniture-flying Florida shows. Just wondering if there isn't some way to combine business and excitement of the old days again. Right now it seems conventions either resemble a museum tour or Animal House, and that that electric something-in-between has been lost.

I hear ya, but one thing about Asia based companies, they value their honor and would not shave. They are very generous.

They will not even do business with a company with poor history. There are some aspects in their work ethic are NOT negotiable.

There is very few of us Americans with them, and its neat working at the Ops in LA, the American culture could learn so much from theirs.

The other thing I admire is they do everything inhouse, very seldom outhouse anything..they are very protective of their development.

They been around long time in VOD market and DVD market, they been shooting product for years. They are known for their JapanX line which includes anime etc.

I walked the floor - no booth this time -I did do one at AVN which more then paid for itself.

Here's my gossip - sad but true -

I was leaving the WRS party (thank you Mack Daddy) and coming around the corner was my Dad and his girlfriend (74 and 60 respectively) they immediately announced they flew in from Dallas and got married, they had done it about 45 minutes before they saw me!! Talk about knock me down with feather.

Of course not two minutes later - my dad is asking if I could get him into the CumOnHerFace.com shoot..... Guess he got around the credit card ban I put in effect a few years ago on him.

Overall Internext is okay - but I find I really get more bang for my buck from the smaller shows like Cybernet Expo and Webmaster Access - more face to face time and ability to actually catch up with people.

But I do kinda miss the old days - open bar the whole time, etc.

Highlight of this show has been the Flu I brought back. I didn't start getting sick till monday, with a slight cough. Went home early, took tuesday off, and just finally feeling human again.

Highlight of the show was when I stole SE Guru's roundabout.

Ladies love those things!

I got sent home, I'd love to stay at the office, but something about getting the whole office sick, blah blah blah. I feel like a bus hit me, then got followed up by a few hundred chinese on their little bikes.

I had drinks once in Vegas, and it was at the Player's Ball. Vodka and Redbull were my friends.

It comes down to how you decode my encode.

They are mostly all Asian, and based in LA. But they bring their work ethic and business sense from Asia to the US. They do everything inhouse and prefer to rely on their own development and products. They even purchased their own backbone ISP so as not to have to rely on a 3rd party for hosting.

They shoot and manage their own content, they build their own systems, they do all their own design, they are their own ISP...they are their own investment capital. This is all I am saying.

Never saw this much independence since you hit the boards! :-))

I haven't had anything to eat since Monday when it started.

i hear Steve was approached by Brad, with Brad having a camerman hide a few yards away, and tried to provoke Steve to fight/punch him.

Somehow Steve managed to walk away.

According to many people who have watched the video and seen both guys body language Brad looked extremely intimidated, whilst Steve leant in to Brad, who cowered away...

fancy that.

Wish I knew. Tis the Holy Grail, isn't it?

Ok, let me try ... what would be something "in between"? How about:

Hmmm. Instead of five competing music things blasting or absolutely none, how about piped in music to the entire exhibit floor ...

Whoa! And charging advertisers for commercial time in between!! I need to patent that one! ... Told you there are ways to make money at shows that have not yet been tried.

No real gossip but funny thing about the smoking, since we all had to pile back out into the hall or out the back to smoke, I actually make 90% of my contacts and bussiness at this show while having a smoke and chatting to others doing the same, turn out the be a great ice breaker.

Already checked that out.... Some showrooms are too loud, ours is usually too quiet early on - there has to be a happy medium. In some shows in Montreal we had some piped in music, but most want an arm & a leg....like having to pay for the music system plus a union engineer or two on hand all the time. Then there is the hassle of getting the commercials together (that is it's own problem since most don't make their deadlines) and then paying someone reliable to do the commercials. Not sure it is worth all the hassle. And then trying to please everyone with the music.

In a bigger showroom than we have it would maybe make a nice addition to the booth package, and worth the hassle.
