I see 3 logical successors:

gambling
http://poker.com
6 billion industry this year (just online), 17 billions by 2006

wine, 23 billion industry in USA alone
http://winemile.com

food, like it or not, you can't get away without it
http://www.sharky.com/

all those "vices" are addictive, just like porn
;)

I don't think adult progresses to anything. I think adult is adult and will always be popular. But, as far as other money making opps gambling is certianly up there. As well as Drugs and, like you said, anything else addictive.

Adult in some form is always going to be here.

But the internet is a marketrplace.

So all those above , plus everything else.

mobile content/products
we just got seed capital for a decent sized mobile content/product project and the VC guys are falling all over themselves to fund these types of companies...of course some of those same VC companies funded people who were trying to sell proverbial dogshit online during the dotcom boom, but I digress...

There is no progression.

What ever the next "big thing" is on the Internet will have one common element :

Traffic.

Retirement… wow that sounds so sweet. I'm read for that now.

Adult is not going anywhere and there isn't any vice to replace it. Frustrated weenies might initiate a great purge and toss themselves into other addictions, however the truth is there is none stronger IMO.

The only thing that ever changes in adult is how people access it. The days of porn filled gym bags in trunks or lockers was replaced by the web giving any one handed bandit access almost anywhere… at work, home or even in his car.

I don't see this changing much but I've always thought that the surfer, who is becoming more intelligent will seek out Pay 4 Play programs and end the subscriber rebilling or that sites would be forced into that due to restrictions.

I see wireless becoming a hot item for this. The word handheld is about to take on a new meaning!

The merge between cable TV and internet I think will also be a major player at home and hotels. I think this is in the very near future which is why you see so many large companies buying adult sites and businesses now, especially adult video.

We're revamping my sites into plugins and just holding on to the domains. To be honest I'm really not sure what will happen to .com in the future.

I'm happy to be in the tree biz and that's all going very well.

I'm happy to be in the tree biz and that's all going very well.

And I am happy:

a) to get back into the board business.Hell I witter on all day anyway.

AND

B) getting into the traffic business again.

Heavily
With some friends of ours ;-))

And by traffic ....I mean you any traffic:

porn
wine
plants
a book you wrote
pharma
stock promo
golf tours
widgets

whatever...

Just cause a guy wants to see some tits, hell he might wanna buy some cigarettes a nice case of wine , his hearburn medicine and some penny stock as well.

:)

All traffic is good , mmmmmkay...

I am the next big thing, if having to insert a new belt hole is anything to go by.

These are addicting things...

shoes, clothes, hair salons, nail salons, plastic surgery (LOL)

as I get older... celulite creams and things like that (Maybe I should start using those now).

When I save enough capital and retire from men Im going to open a beauty spa / nail salon or several. One where they actually speak ENGLISH should do well here.

Sabby:)

It's easy to figure out what there will be demand for....alot of them are already listed here.

But if you're thinking in terms of the internet and large margins, the question is what can you easily provide the "supply" for. The beauty of adult is that you can deliver the product for impulse buys and immediate gratification online. There's no inventory, shipping, etc. You need very few employees. A one man operation can still make a good living without ever leaving the house and with very little overhead.

The question is what else is out there than can be run in a similar manner?

only ONE thing:
Religion.

Absolution of sins online fits the same pattern

..and this si why they always compete with porn, when it comes to Legislation
