The Battle of the Bulge which lasted from December 16, 1944 to January 28, 1945 was the largest land battle of World War II in which the United States participated. More than a million men fought in this battle including some 600,000 Germans, 500,000 Americans, and 55,000 British. The German military force consisted of two Armies with ten corps(equal to 29 divisions). While the American military force consisted of a total of three armies with six corps(equal to 31 divisions). At the conclusion of the battle the casualties were as follows: 81,000 U.S. with 19,000 killed, 1400 British with 200 killed, and 100,000 Germans killed, wounded or captured.

And today I got a call from my father telling me that my 80 year old grandmother bought a laptop, and is now online surfing the net looking for old books, art and places to travel... she has never had a computer before :zoinks:

That generation never stops impressing me :salute:

Rolo ,

Your post made me think on what you said..

See when I'm old and my grand kids say

"Yeah grandpa can still play chess ya know and he is 80 , old bastards really impress me"

I'll bitch slap them.

I think that is really condescnding.

Why the fuck shouldn't an old person still play chess , ride a bike , surf the net , go to the pub, ...whatever.

This is prehaps the first time in human history, where people get old and still have their good health with them + society let them enjoy life. If you were 80 years old 100 years ago, then most likely you would either be dead or disabled... that have changed over the last century, but still its only within the last 50 years that we have gotten the "lifestyle" we are used to now.

Eldery people are at a new frontier - they are going new ways, and when we get to their age, then most likely no one will think its special that we do not need diapers, drive/fly like mad in our hovercars, and fucking like 18 year olds :awinky:

I´m happy that I can still be impressed by the progress of the Viagra-popping internet surfing generation out there... because one of these days I will be one of them :-)

(but I´m sure when I reach 100 years, and my grate grand kids are impressed with my ability to still standing up taking a piss, then I will be forced to miss the toilet and piss on their floor ;-)))

Exactly, PD is still able to read and post isn't he?

He's not always making sense but that's understandable ;-)

The opposite occurs too. Especially in sports. "He's only 20 and look what he can do!"

Octagenarians do seem to be slow at adapting technology.
