Got ELF the other day from netflix - watched it last night - it was VERY funny.

IT is a movie the whole family can watch. It was much better then I thought it would be.

If you have not seen it, rent it ASAP!

:okthumb:

Took the whole family out to see it at the Cinema.

Old School Family movie with something for Everyone.

I'm waiting to rent Dodgeball and Bourne2 Next Week.

Watched the Third Harry Potter with them night before last.Great series of films , but OMFG how come so many movies have to be beteen 2 and 3 hours long.

What happened to the old 90 min films?

Is Dodge Ball suitable for kids of 11,10, and 6.?

I saw it in the theater and loved it. Will Ferrell cracks me up in ANYTHING and Bob Newhart is the best.

Depends on how much they'd "catch" of the innuendo. Personally, I'd say no, but I'm a prude B)

Dodgeball was ok - I think it could have been much better.

The borne identity sucked. Too many cheap camera tricks.

They do not make to many good movies anymore....

I agree Mike.

They churn out a lot of mindless movies.

I don't mind Farrel , but for some reason I just wanna punch Ben Stiller.

You guys are watching the big "blockbusters" that are mass marketed. There are LOTS of independent and foreign movies that are being made that are worth watching :)

I have to disagree.

There are several [what i would classify] good movies we have seen lately..

Day After Tomorrow [for the effects]
Dawn Of The Dead [predictable but non the less a good movie]
The Punisher [reasonably good story line to it]
Breakin' All the Rules [good comedy]

I would however say that many of the movie endings these days seem to be crap and just appear to cut out mid story.

Lee I hope if you ever invite me on a movie date you let me pick the movie!!

Day After Tomorrow [for the effects]: Terrible movie, bad acting, stupid plot.

The Punisher [reasonably good story line to it]: One of worst movies I saw in years. I wanted to stab myself in the eye. Bad acting, cheesy script.

Another good movie I can recomend MAN ON FIRE. Denzel Washington is great. The movie is intense and they do not pull any punches. If you think Punisher was a good movie, you will should love MAN ON FIRE.

Mike.. we can do a movie date whenever you want.. ill even accept 'R Rated' movies ;)

Mike, i agree with you Man On Fire, out of all the ones we have watched recently it was the ONLY one both Gary and i agreed on liking lol

But then again, it was a DENZEL movie and i honestly dont think we have watched a movie of his that sucked with the exception of Training Day.

As i sat there in the theater watching The Punisher, I had to respect the creators of the film as I realized the joke was on me. I was the one being punished... and I paid them to do it to me.

Elf has quickly became a family favorite here...my kids watch it daily...much better than I thought it would be and with the ultyrasexy Zooey Deschanel, it's even better...
I wish they'd left in some of the deleted scenes with Bob Newhart...his dry humor cracks me up

Nick, even at 2 1/2 hours they still left quite a bit out of the third Potter film (from the book). The real challenge will be the 4th one which is the longest of the books. They were talking about splitting it into 2 movies (if I was Warner Bros., I would just to milk that extra $200million+ out of the Potter fans ;-)) but instead have decidedto scrunch it up. Is anyone else expecting Harry to go nuts with a machine gun in Hogwart's in his senior year? How much shit can a kid take?

There have been some great flicks out this year: Napoleon Dynamite, Sky Captain,
Man On Fire, Shaun Of The Dead, Harry Potter, Shrek 2, Saw...and a bunch of great foreignm and smaller films ;-))

Every comedy is predictable. :D I liked how raw and black (not the midget the genre) it was. I like most things Billy Bob is in though.

I liked 'Man on Fire' as well.

Motorcycle Diaries is a must see. (Not x-mas)

I think Elf has what it takes to be the next Christmas Story (lots of holiday repeats, spoken of fondly). They did a great job of keeping it very PG rated/tv friendly without being too serious or syrupy

Peaches, you'll love Saved. That's another movie that'll probably end up on my top 10 of 2004.

Saved was actually kinda funny, I was expecting alot worse.

Mckauly Culkin is a terrible actor though. He was better when he was 8.

I think I expected too much from LIT. I LIKED it OK, but it wasn't anything spectacular IMHO. I'm going to watch it again before going to Tokyo though :awinky:
