I read in Bon Appetit or Gourmet in the past few months that some of the new boxed wines are pretty good.

Could it be true? If so, which ones?

Did KC's business have taken turn to the worse?

Hello Miss Eve! I read in Good Housekeeping that Delicato Shiraz in a box beat bottled wine in a blind taste test. The same article mentions Banrock Station and Hardy's, from Australia, and Black Box, Delicato, and Peter Vella, from California; at wine stores, Whole Foods Market and Target, as the best wines in boxes.

However, I have no personal knowlege on this subject. I do know for a fact my friend JEllen, who owns a art gallery, starts the her art gallery shows with red and white wine in the bottle, and then re-fills the wine bottles (in the kitchen, out of sight of her patrons) from wine in the box after everyone has had a few glasses and she says no one has mentioned the difference. :)

I dont like wine in boxes....they would force me to buy wine glasses cause you cant drink it straight out of the box.

Serge, you are a brat! :)

LL, thanks for the info. I definitely see the Black Box and Delicato labels in stores, I will check for others. It seems like a great idea for parties.....my friends would drink anything so why break out the good stuff? :)

I also want to try those cute little Sofia minis that come with the straw! lol

If you two ever make it back to AK I WILL break out the good stuff!

You could just remove the bota bag and use it like a canteen :)

Or stick a straw in it like a kid's juice box....

Hey, I forgot to mention that JEllen also taught me to break open the box, remove the canteen-like bag and squeeze until empty....there is about 1/2 of a bottle sitting in the canteen that you can't get out if you don't break it out and sqeeze dry.

There is the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine in every box.

Esa, 2 our family members live in AK now,
so this is NOT out of the realm of possibility.

I used to be a snob, but after reading that snobs who ONLY drink wines from certain regions, certain countries, certain color bottles, etc, etc,
and who NEVER discover the great wines because of it,
I expanded my horizons,
even though I have to admit, I never had decent wine out of the black box
;-)))

My sister lives in Wasilla, and my brother in Palmer.

Why??? Pipeline work up in Prudoe Bay for my sister's husband, and my brother followed.

They love it up there. I heard the misquitoes are bigger than bats, so I've not made it up...I am allergic to bug bites. :)
