I came home and three moose were fighting. I guess they are fighting for territory during mating season!

They walk across the frozen lake to the yards over here.

Moose in zoo or photos = cute.

Moose in back yard or in front of you on road (when driving 1960 VW Beetle) - not cute. Very fucking BIG.

it may not be fighting, they may have been mating.

Males and females usually lock antlers before they bone, or at least I heard that somewhere. One does look like a male and female in that picture.

Do females have horns? I don't think so.

I've always wanted to go to AK. I'm not sure how people handle the cold for so long & that whole darkness for months at a time would freak me out. Otherwise it looks so beautiful and untouched.

I lived in the Adirondacks for 4 years in a town called Bolton landing which was on Lake George. Every now and then you’d see moose around. Hitting a deer is really bad. I can’t imagine hitting a moose on the hwy.

The novelty of snow wore off. I grew tired of the long winters. One day I was driving on the Northway up towards Montreal and watched the temperature drop on my thermometer drop going negative to – 20. That’s not wind chill. I had to get out of my SUV, cover my face, hands, everything with boots on that were 3 inches thick. I walked across the parking lot and thought I was going to pass out. I have never been so cold in my life. It was that day that I decided to move back to Florida.

The growth cycle of antlers is related to testosterone production. So, you're right.

We are having the mose bizarre weather. We havent had much snow and its been really warm, in the upper 40's some days. The ice on the lake keeps melting and refreezing so its great for skating.

I've fallen on my ass about fifty times this winter. I need to get some of those old lady spikes for my shoes!

I think male moose shed antlers every season or something so sometimes you can't tell.

Dianna, the light/dark thing is pretty crazy. This winter its really getting to me, I just want to sleep all the time. The summer is fucking awesome though. 20+ hours of gorgeous daylight, ahhhhhhh, I cant wait.

Come to think of it, Alaskans are a little bit like manic depressives or something. We put up with the dark winter for those few months of manic sunlight highs :)

Not enough to grow antlers or a beard. Well, not normally anyway. ;-)
