Okay, first off, if you have not heard, Sarah's husband Marc passed away today.

People wanted to donate money to her, so I have offered to handle donations for people that want to donate thru ePassporte. While ePassporte usually only allows 5 incoming transfers every 24 hours, they have graciously increased that number to 100 every 24 hours until Monday! Thank you Kate, and ePassporte.

So, if you wish to donate anything at all, my ePassporte account name is pimpspromo - please make a memo that it is for Sarah's fund.

So far I have received donations from:

Goebbels
Himler
Hitler
Hess
Putzmontek
Quazimodo
UPS
PLO
USPS
Karamazov Brothers
Henry UnKissinger
Pope
Bonnie and Clyde
HoShiMin
Trotsky
Lenin
Marx
Engels
Mao
Gandi
Stalin
Malenkov
DaVinci + Code

Anyone wishing to donate via Paypal can do so by sending donations to sales@shipme.com

Thank you to one and all

Is she broke or something? What the need for money?

I'll donate my prayers if that helps, that is all you should need to get through this nothing else!

I'm goin' with what nick said.

It's a tragedy for sure, and I really do feel for her, but she probably has life insurance on her husband. IF she didn't and needed money for the funeral, i'm sure everyone would help and take care of it.

But the half mill she will probably get from life insurance is not going to bring her husband back. I can't imagine what 5k from gfyers etc is going to do to comfort her.

I don't mean to sound like a dick.... I really am very sad for her and the family.

Well apparently there is no big policy for her so I guess she does need some cash.

My only thought was that if she did have a good policy, that the people on gfy, most of which really need their money so their dialup does not get shutoff, were donating away their own families much needed money.

I guess i'll recant my previous thought.

Sent a 50 spot to help with the funeral, not that it'll do much good. :(

I hope Opranuts learns a lesson to make sure plans are made for all possibilities.

No one like to pay insurance policies, but when the shit hits the fan, they are there for a reason.

Life insurance, is just as important as car, and health insurance. It is not for you, but for those you leave behind.

Sarah's husband had been ill for many, many years and was wheelchair bound. I seriously doubt he was ever able to get a life insurance policy. He also has children and I would suspect the bulk of any thing he has would go to them.

I don't think people are sending money as a way to support her, but rather as a tangible and practical token of their thoughts from all over the world. Flowers die but a few $'s here and there might buy her a nice night out, a mani/pedi, a book, movie, etc. and give her some glimpse of joy in an otherwise horrific period in her life. She's also thousands of miles from her family and it could help with plane tickets, hotel rooms, time taken off work....

As with all donations, if you don't want to donate, don't :awinky:

Peaches, I am glad you shed the lights on Sarah and her husband's misfortune. We didn't know, and when we didn't know,
asking for donations for Sarah here has the same probability of success as to asking the donations for Sarah at
boards.com

Have it occured to you that Sarah is NOT the part of Oprano's family?

You're doing a good thing Baddog... but I agree posting a Total Collected and maybe giving Sarah the names of who donated privately would have been better.

I'd make a point that people are able to donate anonymously if they wish... I know your intentions are good.. but the post's wording will be turning some people around here away from donating.

I hope Oprano Family all do donate though!

RE: Mikes Point about insurance... For Australians, you can walk into most of the major banks, answer a few simple questions, and have them insure your life for under $1/day taken from the account monthly. It may not be suitable for the seriously ill... and isn't a replacement for a longterm life insurance scheme as max payouts are usually 250-500k, but if you have nothing else, one of these is definitely worth having. There isn't a medical or even any forms to fill in at Westpac..... and they cover death from many pre-exisitng conditions after 12 months too. I suggest anyone that isn't covered and lives down here should ask about your bank's accidental death and life insurance offers when your next there.

I wasn't the one who asked for donations for Sarah and I suspect it was brought to Oprano because many here don't read/post on GFY where there are several threads concerning this.

She has worked for Todd and Webinc for several years, she's been in the business for as long as I can remember and she's contributed almost 900 posts to this board. Whilst you might not consider her "family", she's not exactly someone off the streets, IMHO. :awinky:

Again, if you don't want to donate, don't. If you want to donate to putting my boobs back to their pre-30's postition, feel free to do so :)

I'm headed to Atlanta to pick up my baby boy, so everyone have a great Thanksgiving! :)

Sorry I thought kindness of this sort was to be done privately and not..

"Look at me I gave"

The first way is laudable.

The second way is errr marketing , and tacky , IMHO.

Not sure why I am responding, must be a glutton for punishment or something.

First off, for those that don't think that little contributions help, we have people that are donating as little as $1, and some as much as $500 - it all adds up, and so far there has been over $6,000 collected. Funerals are expensive, and based on Marc's medical history, I have doubts that life insurance was available.

The currency exchange rate is probably going to knock the hell out of the end donation, but it will help.

As far as Sarah not being family, I have a feeling that there are many here know her, I just thought I would pass the info along.

As far as naming people, there are people that did not want their name listed, and one that just said "one of the Oprano family." If someone doesn't want their name listed it is very easy to include that in the memo, as intelligent people have figured out.

I did not list the amount individuals contributed for the specific purpose of keeping it from being a "contest." However, some people like getting the confirmation that the money was received, and I personally feel that people should be thanked for their assistance. I am an asshole that way.

Like Peaches said, if you don't want to donate, don't. Please.

Most people in this business have a thing called life insurance.

She did not have life insurance on her husband becauase of his medical conditions, so I kicked in a little bit for her, she seems like a nice gal.

Sorry I don't have ESP like you.

When soliciting donations for a good cause, it's often useful to let other people know who is contributing. There is a difference between telling someone who has donated and telling someone you have donated.

As far as side discussion going on here ... class always shows.

This is a tough situation. Serge has been very consistent about these things. I remember the time he raised some money for the Children's Hospital.

I am confident that Opranuts do a lot of great things for people in need, we just tend to do it privately and not draw attention to ourselves. Unfortunately the way this industry has gone, maybe people use situations like this for self promotion.

If you notice Oprano has a button for the Adopt a Soldier program. Giving time and money to those who need it is a noble endeavor - calling attention to it... well you know my opinion.

Sharpie, you've been in this business way too long and need to enjoy the beach more often. The brain cells detireorate at alarming rate with age.

Can you take your age, divide it by 2,
deduct 47, multiply by 5 and add the number of your posts over the last 6 years?

is this a positive number or negative?

you have 30 seconds to retort....

Whenever you want to make the drive....... It is a party boat, no high speed stuff. Just relaxing.

Im going to throw my $0.02 in here as well..

Whilst the initial response asking for donations to help Sarah with funeral costs was a very good thing to do it now appears that there are 'several' donation threads that have been started on a range of boards that in my opinion serve nothing more than;

a ) Raising post counts on the boards in question;
b ) Giving 'no-namers' something of a new name for themselves and finally;
c ) Reminding Sarah of her loss on a daily basis.

IMHO all three of those points shouldnt be happening but non the less, it doesnt change the fact that the first two donation threads were done in a heartfelt manner but i think there are now to many people putting their 'marketing spin' on an unfortunate situation that im sure everyone no matter what their views are on the matter truely condole for.

As a prime example of point b above please see this thread over on the zoo..

http://www.thezoo.com/showthread.php?threadid=394344&s=

If that isnt tryng to make yourself look good for marketing purposes based on Sarahs recent loss what is?

I just find it pathetic and to me it shows a lack of character on the thread starters part.

Lady Law - will you please come and 'save Serge from himself?
Sharpie, you've been in this business way too long and need to enjoy the beach more often. The brain cells detireorate at alarming rate with age.

Can you take your age, divide it by 2,
deduct 47, multiply by 5 and add the number of your posts over the last 6 years?

is this a positive number or negative?

you have 30 seconds to retort....
unless i was nebachanezzers dog. it would be positive:)

I don't say this often....

MikeAI , excellent post.
