This is so cool! We are making this chickee/tiki hut on my ranch.
The first picture show the total structure unfinished. The palms are still green. There's a special trick to folding and putting them up so that when they dry out and turn brown they are water tight.

We will be completely closing this in like a cabin with a bamboo deck floor, electric, plumbing, etc. As you can see from the inside (below) it's quite large & high. We'll be building a loft where a bed will go leaving the lower level open.

Pretty cool. I'll post more pictures when it's done and we landscape it. We're doing this real tropical jungle theme, fire pit, waterfall, palms, torches, he whole nine yards.
Serge I'm putting you out there when you come!

Where does the A/C go?
lol- of course!
Cleo read where it says that it will be closed in. It will be finished off with walls, windows, doors, etc. Of course it will have AC!
This is the main structure. You can close them in, build bars inside them, all kinds of stuff.
I read that it will have walls and plumbing but I didn't see mention of the most important thing A/C.
I made a few calls to have one of these huts put in my backyard but never actually had it built. I was going to cover the bird cage and BBQ area after I got rid of my jacuzzi. Guess it was best that I never built it as I'm sure the hurricanes would have destroyed it.
It does look like it will be very kewl. :-)

Yes they are very cool. We just hired a few people to start building them. We sell tropical trees so normally we’re asked to do landscaping projects.
They need to be re-thatched every 4-5 years, sometimes sooner.
There are a lot of people out there who throw them up using the wrong type/shape of palms so in a short time they leak or break down sooner. The average cost of building them is 22 to 25.00 per square foot. If you’re still looking for one let us know.

Oh Cleo the indians putting mine up said they are offering a 10 X 10 Special for 1800.00 for around town. You're a little furthur so you'd add travel to that, maybe 150.00 more. That's a great deal actually.
Yeah I think the Indians told me $2000 for a 10x10 hut.
Now that I no longer have carpeting in my house I'm thinking of ripping out most of the backyard decking and reusing the wood to make trails through my backyard. The deck needs major repair anyway and I no longer have to worry about stuff getting tracked onto my carpets, why didn't I do all tile last time, so I want to plant even more stuff and have more of a jungle for a backyard.
I'm planing on doing something with it after the inside of my house is done while the weather is still cool.

2000.00 is also a very good price but be careful who you get. The people that do for us have over 20 years exp and they are indian.
Most companies charge 24.00 a sq foot. If it's less and you don't know the people, you better check them out. I few people emailed us to complete jobs where they paid a deposit for materials and never heard from the people. Or the work was done poorly.
If you know people in your area that want them done they will discount yours fro the referral.
Good luck on your modeling. Work around here is always going on and thankfully outside. I've remodeled quite a few homes as investments while living in them. What a pain in the ass.
