I wanted to get a thread going about holiday gift ideas. It’s that time of year!

Also wanted to spam my business Tam’s Tropical Trees. If you’re looking for a great gift to give family, friends, employees or clients send a tree. We ship 4 & 5 foot trees nationwide. Key Lime, Meyer Lemon, Grapefruit, Clementine, Tangerines, Sweet Lemon and many more. Our 7 gallon trees are grafted so they can also be grown in a container anywhere indoors or out. 7 gallon trees are fruiting age and many will be shipped with fruit on them.

Check out these photos of actual trees that we ship. The first photo is called Fina Sodea Clementina which is actually a Clementine Tangerine. The second is Ruby Red Grapefruit. As you can see it fruits just fine in a container. We have smaller 3 foot lemons and limes which also make great gifts.

http://www.tamstrees.com/images/7galrubyred_small.jpg

We have customers all over the US successful growing tropical fruit trees in planters indoors.

If you live in Florida we also carry HUGE fruit trees- mangos, avocados, citrus trees that can be delivered, installed, etc.

If you have any questions just ICQ me 365555 or send me email.

Thanks!

Well you won't pay for shipping! Sundays are normally good days to pick up trees or towards the end of the week.

See you soon!

yes, I'm pretty sure. Just have LL give me a list of trees and sizes so I make sure I have them here. I don't think you can plant citrus in your county tho so that leaves you with avocado, mango, guava, loquat, lychee, macadamia nut, carambola, banana. I really only carry tropical fruit trees Serge, except for Ylang-Ylang and Michela Champaca trees which are flowering scented trees.

I would like to get one 75 foot ficus tree and plant it in the same spot as my old one just to piss off my neighbor who seems absolutely delighted that mine is gone.

Other then that I always get all my relatives, both living and dead, porn for the holidays. It the gift that keeps on giving and giving.

Personally all I want for Xmas is to have my house remodelling done.

yeah I remember the pics you posted. That really really sucks. Yesterday we drove out to Captiva Island and it was sad to see all those big trees that were 100 plus years all knocked down.

We delivered to a lady in Punta Gorda who had lost a big ficus like yours. Really sad. I feel bad for you. I'm so sorry.

Now that my fence is back up I would like to find something that is fast growing to plant there.

http://cleos-porn-links.com/crap/before-and-after.html

As you can see from the pics it is only about 10 feet from my bedroom window so something that doesn't fall over in hurricanes this time.

I'm thinking of just planting more of these palms that grow all over my yard.

I planted all the ones in front of my house from seedlings that I dug up from my backyard only about four years ago and already you can't see the front of my house.

Here if you are bored here are lots of pics of my little home remodeling project. This week my new kitchen appliances arrive and my kitchen cabinets. Also this week most of my floor tile goes in starting tomorrow.

With luck I may have this finished by New Years. :-)

Some pics…

Unfortunately there are not many fast growing trees. I deal mostly in fruit trees and I prefer them because they normally flowers, they are scented and the bonus is fruit. Even with your big tree down it looks like the area is still shaded. They would be hard for any tree requiring full sun. It’s hard to tell from the pictures.

We sell something called a Strawberry Tree that grows very fast; 4 feet a year. It makes a nice shade tree. It doesn’t look great when it’s still young but when they get older they are very pretty. They produce a white flower and a small tiny fruit that taste like strawberry cotton candy. They attract a lot of birds.

A few other trees that are very pretty;

Allspice – moderate growth, nice foliage and produces a nice flower and scent.
Longan – something like lychee but brown with sweet fruit that clusters. Very pretty tree.
Ylang-Ylang – these can get very tall , very pretty and unreal scented flower.

There are others. If you keep them 20 feet from the house none of these will be problem. Not like banyans and ficus that dominant the yard.

I lost all the shade for my bedroom which has a flat roof over it so. The rest of my yard is fine as soon as the ficus and mango that is on the other side get new foliage. I did have the other one trimmed way back.

Hopefully the thicker insulation that I had installed while they were replacing its ceiling will help keep it cool next summer.

A Strawberry Tree does sound good. Hopefully it has nice deep roots. lol

What really sucks is that when the ficus went down it took a very old very large black olive tree with it. In all I lost three large trees.

Yeah I haven't had a kitchen now for a few months.

I'm enjoying seeing something that I designed and even had a part in doing come together.

I will be really fucking happy when it is all done.

I have lost weight and learned a lot. I also seem to have ended up with a lot of tools. LOL

DV, I wish I lived nearby - your business sounds like so much fun. its awesome to see you making money from doing something you love.

When I eventually open my restaurant, the 'grounds' will be filled with fruit trees and herbs so everything featured on the menu is made from freshly picked produce.

While catering the gourmet night recently, during service i went out to my garden several times to pick garnishes :okthumb:

You can't beat the taste of freshly picked and home grown food.

Good luck over xmas - i hope you pick up some huge business :okthumb:

CJ thank you. I really do love it. It was always a hobby of mine and I began dabbling as a way to make extra money. BAM it took off. In fact I just dropped off display trees at the Fort Myers Airport where people can have citrus trees shipped home. Please keep your fingers crossed.

You know I was thinking about you too…actually a few times. I was trying like hell to get Australian Finger Lime into Florida and finally Dept of Plants – our agricultural division finally started them up and I have two small registered seedlings. There’s so much involved in doing citrus. Anyhow, have you ever seen these finger limes? They are long like fingers and turn almost red. The pulp is like little beaded caviar eggs. They have a very interesting taste. Bitter but nice lime thing going on. What’s nice about them is that you can sprinkle them in drinks and use them in cooking. I was able to get some limes shipped to me from NYC. It’s going to be a hot crop soon. I’ve been exploring exotic flavors, interesting names; Amazon Grape (jaboticaba), etc. Julie mango…

I’m like you when it comes to food and drink. The more exotic the better.

When I got our of college I worked in hospitality – hotel/restaurant marketing and consulting in South Florida. Many times I almost opened a restaurant and I certainly have the credentials but years of watching many restaurateurs almost commit suicide I decided to wait when I could do it as a hobby and not depend on it as income. Gravy money. Lol-

The biggest mistake I’ve seen made in that industry is that they spend more on décor then on marketing & food. The most successful restaurants, imo we’re the ones that opened focusing first on food quality, %40-%50 on marketing, then once they start making money they can fix the place up. This doesn’t mean it should be a dive.

I can’t remember the name off hand but it’s a place in NYC down by the seaport where they give you fried fish in a paper boat with new garlic potatoes and slaw. Very simple, nothing fancy and the place makes a killing.

We’re putting in greenhouses now. Very BIG greenhouses. Even though it’s Florida we have a lot of pest and it gets really hot. I want to grow organic key limes and some other specialty produce for restaurants. Big money, for sure. There’s a guy that lives a few towns away who has two contracts with two NYC markets. He basically just grows for them. All kinds of tropical fruits and exotic stuff. How cool is that job?

Not sure if it's just the California lemon trees (I've heard they are different from east/west coast), but ours grew SUPER fast. In fact, we finally had to remove our 2 lemon trees because they just got out of hand in the last season. We also pulled our tangerine & grapefruit trees (finally) and are putting in some palm trees next spring. To me the fruit trees were just so messy and not worth the work - however, they did grow fast!

Florida citrus looks and taste different then CA. The difference is the humidity. Florida citrus doesn’t look as pretty but it’s sweeter. We sell a Clementine Fina Sodea that is from Europe. In Europe the skin is more loose and it’s seedless but that same tree in Florida the peel is tighter and it pollinates, therefore producing seeds.

Kath fruit trees do require some work, no doubt but you can manage them easily by growing in containers. Today many fruit trees are grafted to stay small and fruit just find in tree tubs or planters. You just create an area for your fruit trees.

I prefer them because they flower and smell pretty. Nothing beats fresh tree ripe fruit. I can walk around my yard and have lunch. That’s what I’m talking about!

Are you in Florida?
