I think the blame lies with the fans on this one, Artest was keeping cool, until he had some (unkown at the time to him) foriegn object land on him, and was in danger of being attacked ( any reasonable person could deduce) he had a full right to defend himself, I think he made a tactical error as a matter of my opinion though, and I would have went to the center of the court with my team and circled the wagons ... ( rather than enter an unknown number of combatants in an unfriendly town!!!) But I do not fault his I must fight to defend myself point of vieww, or right to do so...!

Words are words, and players have to take that it is part of the game, but pysical assaults ( such as the coach in baseball that got jumped by those two guys) is not something they should be expected to overlook

as a good patriot, he took pre emptive action, in order to defend himself, as he might have been attacked by a WMD from that crowd, and has the right to protect himself above all other rights. THE RIGHT OF SURVIVAL is the most basic right of any species on earth no matter hw you look at it.

Ben Wallace started the whole mess. Yeah it was a foul but it wasn't that close to flagrant that it should have caused the melee that ensued. Of course nothing should have caused that.

My guess is that Auburn Hills stops serving alchohol at half time from here on out, and I wouldn't be surprised to see other venues doing the same thing.

NBA moved fast, all 4 who went into the stands are suspended indefinitely for starters.

The boundary of the field of play and the stands should never be crossed by either side in any sport and should be dealt with harshly on both sides. Throwing shit from the stands should get at least an ejection and depending on the object and situation perhaps a fine and night in the pokey. If fans run onto the field and attack like the drunk morons at the White Sox game last year, they should be locked up...and they were.

But that goes both ways if a player goes into the stands, he's out of control and risks causing a riot. Lock their ass up.

in regular seats, in all sports, alchohol sales are stooped at the end of the third period, and ouright banned by most colleges for games played on a campus. for instance at yesterdays bengals loss to the steelers, everyone but club patrons waqs cut off at the end of the third period. in
baseball, its after the seventh inning stretch

noteable exceptions being tule. which plays its home games at the superdome, offcampus, neutral site games, suh as bowl games ( who still have to get permission. and at last years fiesta bowl and sugar bowl, shut it down at halftime

I didn't know that. Stadium is off-campus here of course. Man, that would suck to not be able to drink at a game.

Everybody and their mother will be clucking disapprovingly about the horrible things that happened in Detroit ....

and the NBA will get a bump in ratings for the next couple weeks, with casual fans tuning in for their first game in a couple of years to see if it happens again.
