2 math professors run into each other and started talkin' about life, families, etc.
One asked another:
how many children he had and what were their ages.
The guy answered:
I have 3 children,
the sum of their ages is equal to the number of parked cars you see outside this window.
The result of multiplication of their ages is equal to 36.
The first one said,
I don't think I have enough information....
The second professor agreed and gave the clue which the first one was looking for:
the youngest one talks to his granny on the phone every week.
How old are the children?

It was "have brain cells left?" vs. "no fuckin' way Google can come close". We had no choice.

Can't take credit for it :(
Had a teacher that hammered that into our heads...
Dr.Stuart , actually was his name , haven't thought of him in yonks..
Certain peoples would now believe him to be alive again if in fact he is dead as he is being thought of..
We of course , called him Doc Savage behind his back , because of his touchpaper temper..
and that bit of wittering was in his honor :)

My High School Chem teacher hammered that lesson into me... Any question I asked he would turn and point at the cabinet with all the books.... Lesson has served me well...
As far as honesty and such. I remember I got pulled over by a copy a long while back. He asked me how fast I was going.. I told him 70 or so (it was a 55 zone). He asked me why I admitted it and I replied that I was an honest person. He informed me that an honest person would have obeyed the speed limit. I told him, nope, that's law abiding, not honest. Got a ticket anyway...lololol

I think it is 6-6-1.. But don't know how a one year old can be on the phone to grandma

aha!!!
I agree cause of age my intial answer was wrong..
I think two is still too young to talk on the phone.
however i therefore say that they are
4,3,3
age criteria met.
Plus...even though the two younger children are twins the youngest twin may well be referred to as "the youngest"

I disregarded that one because I didn't like the assumption that one would be referred to as the youngest and also be the one that likes talking to granny...
But equally plausible.. B)
We talk to our 2 year old nephew on the phone...and he COULD be almost 3 as long as we're playing the "could" game..

Whilst arguing with serge in iie 6,6,1...
my wife passed by...
"How old is a kid when he could talk and hold a phone well enough to speak to someone."
She said "around 3"
At the time that pissed me off. :)
However I now site that a part 1 of my the kids were 4,3,and 3. defence.
31 to 36 months
By the time he turns 3, your child will be a more sophisticated talker. He'll be able to carry on a sustained conversation and adjust his tone, speech patterns, and vocabulary to fit the person he's talking to in a particular situation. For instance, he'll often use simpler words with a peer ("I need go potty") but more complex constructions with you ("I need to go to the bathroom"). By now, other adults, including strangers, should be able to understand almost everything he says, which means you'll have to do less translating. He'll even be a pro at saying his first and last name and his age — and will readily oblige when asked.
Thats part two...
2-3 years
By now your toddler will understand two stage commands ("Get your socks and put them in the basket") and understand contrasting concepts or meanings like hot / cold, stop / go, in / on and nice / yuccy. He or she notices sounds like the telephone or doorbell ringing and may point or become excited, get you to answer, or attempt to answer themselves.
3-4 years
Your three or four year old understands simple "Who?", "What?" and "Where?" questions, and can hear you when you call from another room. This is an age where hearing difficulties may become evident. If you are in doubt about your child's hearing, see a clinical audiologist.
I site the above as part three....
The tradegy is withy , my own , I can't honestly remember.

As we were a travelling family ever since the first one came along...
Ours were on the phone to relatives at an early age..
However , it was a not really "talking on the phone to granny" til about three
Well ,actually, to talk to one of their granny's would be require a medium ;-)))

Unless I'm missing something Serge... And I hate to say this (unless I'm right) but I think you're wrong on this one....
I be thinking it has to be 6-6-1
the possible combinations are:
36-1-1 = 38
18-2-1 = 21
9-2-2 = 13
9-4-1 = 14
6-3-2 = 11
6-6-1 = 13
4-3-3 = 10
(I don't think I missed any)
If 6-3-2 is the answer then the guy has enough information at this point:
the sum of their ages is equal to the number of parked cars you see outside this window.
The result of multiplication of their ages is equal to 36.Since the 6-3-2 combo is the only one that adds up to 11 , if that is the answer then when he sees the 11 cars parked then he has the whole thing.
Since he needs more info then the answer would have to be one of the two combos that add up to 13......

Sare, of course you are missing something...
information about "youngest talks to granny on the phone every week" eliminated:
1) younger twins
2) 1 year olds
leaving 2,3,6 as the ONLY answer!

The youngest twin in a family would unequivocably call bullshit.
A two yr old is still too young to speak to his granny properly on the phone.
