View Full Version : France vs. Ivory Coast

"Ivory Coast" president Gbagbo has said that the presence of French "peacekeeping troops" in Ivory Coast reminds him of the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.

France has destroyed the small Ivory Coast Air Force. Fifty French armored vehicles have surrounded Gbagbo's residence and the fear is that France will oust the leader.
Many "Westerners" have been evacuated.

French troops have fired warning shots into crowds and hundreds of Ivory Coasters stood in a line to block a 70 vehicle French convoy from entering the city of Abidjan. There's looting in Abidjan.

The French Defense Ministry said it destroyed three helicopters in Yamoussoukro, the nation's seat of government, in what it called a "pre-emptive strike".

Protestors held up a sign saying "Chirac is worse than bin Laden". You can see it here.

Another sign read "Ivory Coast is a sovereign state." Protesters chanted against the French "The whites don't like the blacks, but we don't care!"

I think we should take the side of the Ivory Coast just to play "french".

We can sell them weapons, materials and tools to make WMD, protect them in the UN against French, etc....

If the US was doing this, there'd be people marching in the streets with "Bush is Hitler" signs.

Exactly.

Heck we could do it on the sly.... then pretend ignorance during UN sessions.

We could make it France's Afganistan.

Let's offer to build them a "peaceful nuclear reactor". Is that how it's done?

Only in Iran and N. Korea.

I guess the leaders of the Ivory Coast are cash poor so they could not just pay off Chirac with bribes....

No, no, no .... we supply weapons etc. to a rebel group that succeeds in destroying the existing government while driving out the French and throwing the country into complete anarchy, then we walk away.

We wouldn't give anyone nuke-ler weapons. Chemical and biological, maybe ... but not nuke-ler.

Maybe I have been wrong about you!

It is a fact that no country with a McDonalds has EVER attacked another country with a McDonalds. Globalization helps prevent wars.
