Up 3-0 in 7 game series, to lose 4 in a row.

Amazing. Never been done before.

I will be pulling for who ever wins National League series....

Steinbrener is going to blow a gasket tonight. All of his big $$ guys have done nothing past 4 games.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer buncha cocksuckers ...

I'm just hoping the Cardinals can beat the Colt 45s one more time, although a 40-year repeat of the '64 World Series would have been interesting.

Swat the killer B's ...

While a lot can be said about the Yankees choking, I think the Red Sox deserve praise for sticking in there and not giving up.....Shilling was out there with his tedon stapled to his ankle last night, then tonight Lowe, who is probably in his last season with the Red Sox pitches a 6 inning/1 hit gem

I was at the bowling alley when Sierra grounded out to second and for a few minutes the cheers of everyone watching on the tv screens drowned out the sounds of pins crashing...it was amazing.

Yes it was by far the biggest choke ever.

But for the next half of a decade it might be the best thing for the Yankees

I have been a huge sox fan since I was 5 years old. I certainly view this as the greatest comback ever.

I am pulling for Houston as Clemens has been my favorite player for the last 20 years (Even as a Yankee).

Houston vs. Sox

Boston did a wonderful job of sticking in and not giving up. It is very admirable.

Could be their year....

Very true. The Yankees have gotten a little too used to winning. This might be just what they need to fire them up! Listen to the Boston fans & team in their interviews... losing to the Yanks got them focused - they truly worked hard to overcome this year and look where it got them. As a Yankee fan I can say that the Sox deserved to win this one - they earned it.

Hub still swears the Yanks were paid off to lose... lol I've been a fan my whole life and I think that's just a TAD far-fetched. I still say they just got used to winning, expected the win and never ever considered that Boston would cause such an upset in game 7. An MLB tortoise/hare tale if I ever heard one.

Oh well.... there's always next year! :okthumb:

Why do they need to be "fired up"? They buy their success. I believe they have 16 players who have made the all star team at one time or another. That costs a lotta dough. I'd like to see a salary cap in baseball.

Red Sox are no joke. 98 wins.

yes, a salary cap!

then my Reds wouldnt have to choose from trading Sea Casey, so that Griffey's contract can move to first. I love Griffey, but that huge contract has saddled the franchise.

we need middle releife. one, or two god veterans out of the buullpen, but cannot afford them.

The only way I could agree with a salary cap is IF owners are required to put a huge percentage of the rev share they receive back into the team instead of their pockets as many of them do now.

Normally I am against any type of Salary cap - it is 100% against capitalism.

Maybe we should place Salary caps on business owners - sorry you are only allowed to make X dollars a year, the rest you have to give to your competition.

I see 50 million in profit for the Reds

Yankees profit is half that.

When owners start to pocket less money then it is time to talk cap

It's not just a business though. It's also a game. Games have rules. Some of them have rules to keep the game competitive. Like in the NFL, the team with the worst record gets the first draft pick. Using the rules of unbridled capitalism in the NFL would mean no draft. Just let teams sign whomever they can sign.

what's funny is in all that money they spent, they failed to spend it where they needed it: left handed pitching

Because of the bullshit "we got A-Rod because we could" game they played with the Red Sox, they were unable to pick up any lefties in the 'pen that would have been essential i beating the Sox.

Now, they are saddled with huge contracts next year (nearly $180 million in guarantees) and they have aging fielders (and might not ever get Giambi back to 100% who is still owed $75 of his contract), no pitching and no prospects to trade to get pitching.

Steinbrenner will let Cashman and Torre take the fall, but it's his own fault. Cashman couldn't get Johnson because he had nothing to offer the Diamondbacks.

I'm sure the Yankees wil bounce back next year with another 95-100 win season due to their amazing batting lineup, but the postseason looks pretty bleak.

My favorite moment was watching A-Rod cry ;-)

I was so happy to watch the Yankees choke.

If a team ever deserved to lose, it's the Yankees. Just goes to show, money doesn't buy you the championship. The players still have to win it.

I'd love to see Boston win the series and break the curse.

But a salary cap would do little more than make the players get less money

You would still have owners that grossly underpay their people (Twins and A's come to mind)

Also at this point they would have to set it at 200 million otherwise you are unjustly punishing one or 2 teams.

It is grossly unfair to set a cap below what a teams current payroll, just like the "Luxury Tax" was nothing more than punish the Yankees.

BTW how many series have the Yankees won in the last 5 years ?

The funny thing about the luxury tax too was that it as supposed to go to the smaller teams to help them build, but I remember the Pirates having a firesale on most any player with talent and I wouldn't be surprised that most of the money they recieved went into the pocket of the owner.

Look at the owner of the Twins...here's a guy who could give a shit less if he has a team or not...he practically begged for contraction. His team manages to succeed desipte itself, but imagine what the team could do if they could afford to get more free agents and/or keep the taltened guys they have...

I'm more tired of teams crying poverty then turning around and selling the team for a whopping profit...amazing that a money pit team could fetch so much on the open market...

As a Yankee fan, I truly hate how everyone hates the fucking Yankees. What the fuck did we do to everyone else -- win? If you don't follow baseball during the regular year, and find yourself hating on the Yankees - then congratulations, you are on the bullshit bandwagon.

If your team is in the NL, you have no reason to complain about the Yankees. They have nothing to do with your shitty team not making the playoffs or World Series.

I've never seen more people so happy that a team loses -- some people are so happy, its like their own team had won. The Yankees haven't won in a while now, no matter what - money does not buy World Series - I don't know who came up with that logic in the first place. Steinbrenner is committed to putting the best baseball team out there, more owners should be like him. If the owners don't have the money, its cause the fans suck and don't show up to games, buy merchandise, and aren't particularly too interested in their own team. Of course these are the same fans so happy that the Yankees lose. There is no unfair advantage. Steinbrenner has not cheated his way to the top - he got there by being smart, and he has fan support. When he came out with the YES network, people did not complain that TV prices went up. In fact, one year Cablevision refused to cut a deal with him, everyone switched to DirecTV, paid more money, never complained, and Cablevision was forced to cut a deal with him. Explain why no other team has done this -- Cause their fans don't care half as much as Yankees fans.

Here's a clue: get used to not seeing the Yankees win, no team in any sport can dominate so much as to win championships 10 years in a row. We took 4 out of 5, made a nice run -we had little player turnover. Name a team in pro sports thats taken 8 out of 10. We are simply good year after year. Get used to us being good. Get used to the fact we arent going to win the Series year after year, but will do our best to win it every year.
