Where has Colin Powell been for the last couple of months? Could it be that he so doesn't like the Bush administration that they are purposely not using him in the campaign?

It's scary, it is like they are trying to hide him from the media or something.

Basically nobody from the Bush team is out there pushing for the President. I see Cheney (when he comes out of his hidey hole, where ever that is), Ashcroft ONLY at news conferences for AG issues, and the rest of the team is pretty much hidden away. It is almost like they are trying to keep them from saying ANYTHING, so there is no chance for a "gotcha".

Is this weird or what?

Yes, Alex, they are hiding him from the media. That's why he's in Atlanta addressing the Atlanta Press Club with all media invited - not just APC members.

This is what my spending a few minutes in google news brought up. This is just a part of his schedule ...

Powell was interviewed on ABC's "This Week With George Stephanopoulos" last week. He also met with "the General People's Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Co-operation". The prior week he met with the Russian foreign minister, EU Chief diplomat and Kofi Annan. He also had a meeting with Syria's foreign minister. The week before that he conducted a sit down interview with members of the media at the state department.

So he has been conducting public interviews of a normal high profile commensurate with his position while performing his normal very busy schedule.

I don't remember much of a history of secretary of states on the campaign trail.

Here is the cabinet of the last president. Which of these was "out there pushing for president?

Secretary of State: Warren Christopher, Madeline Albright
Secretary of The Treasury: Robert Rubin
Secretary of Defense: William Perry Cohen
Attorney General: Janet Reno
Secretary of The Interior: Bruce Babbit
Secretary of Agriculture: Mike Espey
Secretary of Commerce: Ron Brown
Secretary of Labor: Robert Reich
Secretary of Health & Human Services: Donna Shallela
Secretary of Housing & Urban Dev.: Henry Cisneros
Secretary of Energy: Hazel O'Leary
Secretary of Education: Richard Riley

-------

Regardless, I still maintain the winner of the election is going to be more lucky than good. Small individual random events - like traffic accidents and headaches - in battleground states will determine the winner of this election.

Not this close to the election, but if Bush is reelected his will be one of the resignations accepted. (All cabinet members resign when the is a reelection, only some are not accepted)

Colin, the president is also technically keeping up a busy schedule of running the country while he is out there stumping too. I just find it a little bit odd that all these "superstars" were out there last time, and now this time they are all "too busy" to really do anything on the campaign trail.

Peaches, regular news conferences about state department business is not a campaign stop. Unless Powell announces that the whitehouse has caught fire, he will be lucky to make page 9 - unless he is on a campaign stop.

He was high profile 4 years ago. Now he is, well, non-existant from what I am seeing through the media.

It appears that the media are only really interested in covering the 'big dogs......

If there is not something sensational - the media feels like it has had a bad day. Just reporting the news is too old fashioned and boring today. When someone says "shit" or maybe "damn" in a new coference - it will get reported.

Maybe someone can convince Colin Powell to say "Shit, damn, fuck!" so the media will report it for Alex :)
