I just happened to turn on fox during launch and watched all the way through landing. This is a huge step for commercial space travel.

They are hoping to lauch again next week, so they can claim their prize.

Some info http://www.spacedev.com/newsite/templates/...Nav=11&subSel=3 (http://www.spacedev.com/newsite/templates/subpage3_article.php?pid=411&subNav=11&subSel=3)

Is this financed by Paul Allen? I had the TV and was half listening yesterday when I saw something about space travel being funded by him but I don't see his name in the article.

Or is this something different?

Very interesting no matter! :)

Yeah I think Allen is part of this group. They were saying he was talking about making the next trip - next week. That would be pretty ballsy.

Yep, Richard Branson has apparently ordered THREE of these spacecraft for delivery in 2006 - Each will take 5 passengers on a three hour flight into space for 100K each (not sure if that's pounds or dollars though). He's already talking about getting an orbiting hotel built too!

Prices are dropping fast in the space industry:

2001 - first space tourist paid $20 million for 1 week
2006-7 - people will be paying $200 thousands for 3 hours
2020 - ?
2040 - ?

If they get the "Space Elevator" http://www.isr.us/spaceelevatorconference/aboutSE.html idea to work, then it be as cheap as normal earth destinations...

There was a segment on the news the other day where you can take a flight out for $3K or so and experience 0 gravity for 40 second intervals for about 2 hours :)

The only problem I would probably have is that I get extreme motion sickness :( I don't know why but I always have.

Watch it live.

An awesome event to watch.

Really did look like something out of a SciFi show with that giant flame coming back out the . I thought it was going to end badly when it started rolling like that.

I want shotgun in the next one.
