Sykky,

Your ability to read fluent typo has been immeasurably enhanced by the amount of time you spent talking online to Punky. :P

I can't count the number of times we've been in a chatroom and one of us has had to translate what Punky just said so the rest of the channel had some idea of what he was on about. :agrin:

Very cool. I took a class from Robert Crowder who wrote a book titled "The Psychology of Reading" on the same subject. Interesting stuff.

yup, that's same trick I use for solving those 'word jumbles' in the newspapers really quickly, you just keep swapping the first and last letters til the word 'appears'... ;)

How about those speedreaders you saw on infomercials years ago. Any truth to those?

Did his book go into that as well (not the commercial, the technique itself)?

Yes. Right near the front of the book too. He's very critical of the advertised reading rates. Regarding the claims of commercials he states that "If our definition of reading, for these purposes, includes any requirement that the words on page be processed, then it just can't work". He does critique the various advertised methods also.

Much detail. Too much to copy right now. I can't speed-type.

For the record, I first read "the srcet of my sucksces" as "the secret of my suck scenes". When in Rome expect Latin.

Yet once again, my opinion of humanity at large is only solidified by watching geriatric dimwits finally figuring out what is taught in an undergrad psych class.

I didn't read where anyone "finally" figured something out. It doesn't work when you only read the first and last letter of an entire thread, you know. Didn't they teach you that in undergrad psych?

Remove nose. Grab wash cloth. Use water & soap. Wipe.

Dignity goes a long way.

Ahh, yes. Dignity. The opium of those poor wretched souls with low self-esteem. "Praise me!" he said, "Respect me! Value me! Honor me!"
