I was over at Voltar'splace and caught a coouple of posts between Aga and V. Then I go over to Netpond and see that Meat has posted about winning a million and a half in a court case.
In the thread Aga posts that the lawsuit was about when they were taking over the board from the previous owners one of the employees left and started a newbie board stealing all their newbies...blah blah blah...
So, I can kinda figure out the players in this but it is hard to believe.
Is this for fucking real ??
Anybody got the skinny on this. In private via email if necessary.
The judge has just issued his decision on our recent court case.
US$1,584,600 in general damages

So Meat,
when you going after Serge and Mike ?
I mean Voltars place and Oprano were both pretty much born at about the same time, from the same situation and I am sure that Serge brought several posters over here with him when he opened shop.
Our differences with Serge have been resolved Sarretah, we made peace and we came to a friendly cessation to hostilities:) Serge and Mike are firends.
We offered Voltar an olive branch before we began legal proceedings and he rejected it.
The only person on our radar now is Bode and sextracker, he is a thief who has stolen from pretty much everyone in the biz including us.
He fucked us now its his turn to pay and he will pay finanncially and he will go to jail also.
Meat :okthumb:
Edited to add - p.s. Don't think I'm a bandwagon jumper, besides being friends with Meat I have a personal reason to give the thumbs up to this action
It's been over 2 years but I don't forget

I am waiting to see this one play out. This could be a very important case for the Internet and it definately seems like they were begging to be made an example of.
I wish you luck with this.

Hmm..well this sucks. I like Voltar, I like Netpond (haven't dealt with Meat or Aga so wouldn't characterize it as like but definitely do not have anything against them in any way) and I definitely like Oprano and Serge and Mike. Except for a few posting forays onto GFY, I pretty muchh only post here and VNWR but I read Netpond pretty regular.
So, just like when friends get divorced I think I will jump to the side of this and let it pass because there is definitely some history I am not fully versed on yet. Just hate to see shit like this go down.
Ive never liked that Voltar dude in all honesty he is somewhat of a megalomaniac who thinks just because he has a lot of #1 SE listings for newbie related search terms he is some sort of god.
Of course he also 'invented' a lot of the hub/filter techniques i was told by him a few months ago whn he asked me to remove some posts on on of the boards we run because he had them first, we told him to put up or shut up, he decided to shut up.
Regards,
Lee
I guess my question would be is Voltar going to appeal?

Actually, I had been using those same techniques long ago, so he didn't exactly invent them. He added a little of his own and automated it, but I was doing hub/filters back in early TGP's and earning a nice living just from daily listings on the adult buffet sites....
but, that being said, I am friendly with both sides, so won't comment publicly on one side or another, kind of like the divorce analogy sarettah used
Voltar's board doesn't have any traffic these days and considering that he still has a day job I would say that his online stuff isn't doing that great either.
Back in the Netpond days when Voltar ran the newbie board his advice was relevant but times have changed and Voltar didn't so now he is irrelevant.
He has no love for me as I'm one of those evil list owners that in his mind has ruined the biz because I won't list his spammy ugly sites, don't allow consoles, money bars, and think that people should make sales the old fashioned way and actually try to sell something not "trap them in console hell until they are beat into submission" like he likes to say about his cattle as he likes to call the surfers.

Lee, there are many routes to making money on the web, just as in real life these are many ways to make money.
You can run a company, have other people do the real work.
You can have a store, and sell stuff other people made.
You can stand on a streetcorner with a cup and hassle people until they give you money.
I am sure I don't have to explain to you how each of these examples matches up to a business idea on the web.

How are surfer traps, hubs and crosslinked sites not equated to work? If you knew how much I worked that fucking traffic back in the day (before the value of linklist and TGP traffic went way down) you'd shut up fast.
I don't think it is so much more or less work just changing with the times and working different.

Oh i agree that those sort of sites are wok, and lots of it however, as Cleo mentioned above, they do need to be changed regularly.
Using the same layouts / techniques / tricks that worked back in '99 in all reality probably wouldnt work in todays industry unless you change those sites do grow with the way of the web.
Hell i use hubs and filters on a regular basis however, i do also play with them on a regular basis to, there is only so much you can do to a surfer to make them buy and part of that is making sure you have some solid marketing in place in addition to countless consoles etc ;)

Lee
