View Full Version : But do we really need him here?

Deion Sanders appears poised to end his three-year retirement at age 37 and could join the Ravens this week primarily to work as a nickle back.

The Ravens have 2 pro bowl players in the secondary, Cornerback Chris McAllister (maybe the best cover guy in the league) and Safety Ed Reed (who is a huge playmaker)
Sanders is 37 and hasn't played a down in the NFL in 4 years,
yeah he's fast (but is he still fast enough to play corner), yes he's a good cover guy but his tackling can be suspect and he's not a big hitter. The Raven's are HITTERS
The Raven's don't need a guy who tries to get the limelight, Ray Lewis is enough
It's a TEAM defense, does Sanders fit in with a team concept?
and Charles Woodson wants to be the higest paid corner in the league
Woodson

Yes McAllister has less tackles but playing behind Ray Lewis, Peter Boulware and Edgerton Hartwell you're going to get less tackles
Check out the picks (interceptions) and passes deflected. McAllister has more passes deflected
Both players have been named the franchise player by their teams

I'm curious to see how he fares, if he gets much game time at all.
My guess is that he'll get hurt his first game back.

He's great for the locker room.
I hope he can still play though. He's fun to watch.

Sanders is a pussy and a coward who couldn't make a tackle against the run to save his life. The man has ZERO heart.
The word here (and subject to change) is Sanders if he comes here to the Ravens will be the nickle back
Lamont Brightful (lightest man in the NFL at 160LBS.) returned kicks last year but puts the ball on the ground too much
A rookie Simms had a good game Saturday returning kicks against Detroit
As much as the Ravens have a thug defense I don't think Sanders will be a good fit, we have a very strong secondary
and while I won't say anyone in the NFL is weak or a wimp, Sanders has shown a tendency not to be a big hitter
Sanders is having a physicial for the Ravens today

Sanders should stay retired. I doubt he will be productive at all.
NFL is a young mans game.

nickle formation = obvious passing downs (3rd and long, 3 receiver sets, etc...) It also means he will lineup against 3rd/slot receivers. If he does comeback, it would be a limited role where he could intercept a couple and look good...
But I think he should stay away, keep his legacy intact.

Pats are the team to beat right now
How fast is Deion going to be at 37?
Darell Green was incredible at 39 but he was a rare breed of player
It's official, for better or worse
Deion is a Raven
