Went out the other night to get paper jewels a new camera.

Long story short, ended up coming home with 2 :)

a Finepix s7000 for paper jewels (has a great super macro feature, you can get within about an inch of the object)

and

a Canon Digital Rebel for me :)

Now I just got to find some foliks to get naked in front of it so I can pay for it...lololol....

Any volunteers ??

Sarettah,

I would be interested in knowing how you like the Canon Digital Rebel. Especially when in regards to taking rapid, multiple shots. How is the response and save time?

I'm thinking about retiring my Olympus E10 which is now 3 years old (and dreadfully slow at image saving especially at the highest resolution). So I'm torn between the Digital Rebel and the Nikon D70 which is probably the closest competitor in its class.

I've had a D70 for a month now and it's the best digital SLR you can buy for less than $3000, period. The D70 is a professional-grade camera with professional features. It's also built like a tank.

Deciding on an DSLR is more about the lense systems, though, so don't decide what brand you'll get because of the body. Digital camera bodies go obsolete fast, but your lenses will be around forever.

Hey Mike,

When I was looking, I looked at the Rebel and I looked at a Nikon D7 0 side by side. (The rebel was 1000 with the lens, the Nikon was 1000 for just the body, so about 1200 with a lens)

For burst (multiple shots) the Nikon kicks ass on the rebel. The rebel slows down after 4 shots. I held the button down on the Nikon and it didnt start slowing down until about 25 shots in.

I went with the Rebel partly for brand loyalty (I have owned Canon Cameras for about 30 years now) and partly because I didn't want to part with another 2 bills and because the burst mode was not a necesitty for me (although I can still bring the Rebel back no questions asked for a few more days and have already been tempted to go grab the Nikon)

So, if it long burst mode you want and the 2 bills doesn't matter, I would go with the Nikon for sure :)

Since starting in this business I have always been a Nikon man.

Started with N70, then when we made money moved to F5. Since going 100% digital we now shoot with D100s. They are fantasic cameras.

Cheap niggers own the digital rebel. And I for one love mine.

I don't use the burst mode, but I like the Canon Digital Rebel more than more expensive camera bodies because it's an inexpensive body, it can use all my different size Canon lenses, and is very light to hold, yet still takes great pics.

Some pricey professional cameras!!

I'm getting a CANON S410, seem to have missplaced my cybershot.

That's all I need.

Not me..lol....

I am amateur all the way. There was a point some 25 years or so ago that I sold a couple of pics and toyed with the idea of doing photography professionally but that was long ago and far away.

I went the way I did because I have always used 35mm equipment and the rebel emulates the full array of 35mm features pretty nicely.

There are probably a good many folks in the industry that use 35mm professionally, but I would imagine the real pros are using large format stuff. (I could be wrong though, I often am.... :yowsa: )

I've been shooting content with the D70 and love it.

With the high speed 256 meg card I shoot 144 shots without pausing which is the max the card holds. The studio strobes sometimes have a hard time keeping up with the camera.

It is instant on and ready to shoot and the battery seems to last forever. I've shot for a full day on one battery.

The camera is a pleasure to use.

hey sarettah,

if you do a lot of product photos you might find this site useful:

the pics would have to sell a bunch of stuff to pay for all the equipment they use :)

Looks good. The Nikon D70 will also do nice close up work especially if I got a different lens for it.

I can shoot 144 like this before pausing which is what I mostly needed from a camera.

I would post more examples but I'm sure that everyone has seen enough porn.

We are looking to get a much better video camera and we are looking at the Sony VX2100.

What lighting are you using for video?

We got a couple of these cold lights (http://www.bowens.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=45&osCsid=33a1856794c78ceeee2273f7bac9dda9) and probably going to add one of these (http://www.bowens.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=46&osCsid=33a1856794c78ceeee2273f7bac9dda9).

Originally we were hoping to shoot the vids and stills at the same time but they didn't provide enough light for the stills so we are still using studio strobes for the stills and switching back and forth between stills and vids when shooting.
