LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Judging from the recent success of "Alien vs. Predator," crossover franchise films make for good box office.
That's probably why New Line Cinema has already been mulling a sequel to 2003's hit film, "Freddy vs. Jason," to be titled "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The proposed face-off will reunite horror stars Freddy Krueger of "Nightmare and Elm Street" fame and Jason Voorhees, the hockey-masked fiend from the "Friday the 13th Films," to take on a new foe. Ash is the wisecracking anti-hero portrayed by Bruce Campbell in director Sam Raimi's "Evil Dead" films, which also includes "Army of Darkness."
The cynical Ash is best known for his pithy one-liners, chainsaw-tipped arm and his "boomstick," a 12-gauge double-barreled Remington. If the deal goes through, Campbell will reprise his role.
"Freddy vs. Jason" earned nearly $82.2 million in the U.S. in 2003.
Campbell, 46, currently appears in Raimi's "Spider-Man 2" as a snooty usher. He next stars in the upcoming horror flick "The Woods," which will be released in October.
