We're Olympic junkies - we admit it... just curious if anyone else out there has been glued to the screen watching the events.

Our faves are gymnastics, swimming and volleyball... it's been nice seeing all of the personalities take center stage and then work as a team, the competitions have finally come to a head and even though I support my own team (GO USA!) it's nice to see such a diverse medal ceremony and not just one country taking home all the gold.

So far so good IMHO... I love watching this stuff! B)

I was watching women's beach volleyball the other night and it was interesting...but I can't recall when it was that this actually became an Olympic event....

Must be me, but for some reason this time around I just have no interest at all.

It might be that when I click the guide and see the description as "Nigeria vs Nepal in sculling" or "badmitton quarterfinals" or "biathalon prelims" I just yawn and find something else to watch.

I think it's largely because it's on the other side of the world and the time zones have the networks showing stuff that I already know the results of, but I have ZERO interest in the whole thing.

Wanna get Americans to watch? Add football...

I love to watch the Olympics, but I haven't really had the chance!
I'm still out here in beautiful British Columbia. Leaving tomorrow though.

Sorry it didn't work out for our round of golf Nick.

I did shoot a 98 today at Golden Eagle though. Not exaclty an Olympic qualification. :D

Now why would we wanna go and do that?

We embarassed ourselves in baseball... hell, the US baseball team didn't even make it - we lost to Mexico or something embarassing like that...

We embarassed ourselves in basketball... I think everyone has heard about our big loss to Puerto Rico....

*sigh*

Let's keep football just for us, m'kay?

I love the olympics - one of the few times I'll bother watching sports :biglaugh:

There's been heaps of upsets in the swimming which have been disappointing for us aussies - the South African who won the gold in the mens 400 was a major shock, but its always awesome to watch countries make 'firsts'.

There's something addictive about watching people's dreams come true :okthumb:

This olympics coverage so far has been CRAP. Timing is off for us down under too - i guess this is what it was like for everyone else when it was in Sydney last time?! LOL

noooooo!!!

the american team took back the mens 4x200 freestyle relay crown!!!!!!!!!
13/100's of a second in front of the aussies! that was our race!!!!!

Michael Phelps is blitzing the pool - that was his 5th medal, 3rd gold.

He got almost a half body length on grant hackett which is a huge lead in a 200m sprint race

*shaking head*

We aren't doing as well as we expected ;-(

They were talkin bout this on the radio this morning, saying most of the aussie swimmers actually look pretty good in real life, but look pretty dorky in the pool (thorpe in his full body suit anb big clown feet) ...

As opposed to Phelps who looks good in speedos in the pool, but in real life kinda looks like a monkey ... cause they are some HUGE ears
:nyanya:

True though, we haven't lost the 4 x 200 freestyle since the 1996 atlanta games ... big upset considering how much we are usually unstoppable in the swimming events.

Isn't it funny how something like that can totally change your point of view on things? I remember people talking on the boards how they couldn't help but thinking "good for content - or not?" ...the running dialogue in their heads of - "no, her boobs are too big..." or "huh uh, those boobs are too fake..." - noticing little imperfections that wouldn't work on their sites, rather than just drooling like they would have before they were webmasters. lol That always cracked me up.

And I remember the whole Vegas and NASCAR marketing techniques being discussed as ideas for Internet advertising/promotions, etc... new knowledge of something that can be related to what we obsess over during the day (i.e. the Las Vegas strip is just one BIG circle jerk!) can really open your eyes in a unique way.

Everything IS educational! :okthumb:

Oh, god. Porn has fucked up my entire view on women, relationships and sex.

The original circle-jerkers learned a lot from the grocery store. "100%", "FREE", "NEW", color choices and so on.

Yup... it's that damned impulse aisle in the checkout - candy bars, cheap crap - Wal-Mart really has a handle on the exit console... especially with my kids! lol

You think you get out of the store safe and WHAM! they hit you on the exit!

so true

I wrote an article once about how vegas is one big circle jerk after one of my trips there ... I remember that mgm/new york/excalibur corner in particular - there is NOWHERE to just get down to the street and cross the bloody road! You have to walk through the mgm to find the lift to get onto a walkway which takes you into a casino mall which leads you to the casino which has another walkway to another elevator - all just to get outside!!

Its been said a lot lately 'theres nothing new under the sun' and in the world of marketing its so true - everything we do is a 'version' of something in print, or an 'adaption' of something on TV. So is content ...

We should be looking in those places more than we do for inspiration :okthumb:
