Interesting story in the local Aussie paper today:

http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0...255E421,00.html (http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,10453582%255E421,00.html)

A confidential paper from the left-wing think tank the Australia Institute, which is now being considered by the Opposition Leader's office, proposes that ISPs install compulsory filtering programs so only adults who can verify their age could view X-rated material.

How exactly would they do that? How would ISP filtering be any different to the filtering of specific programs such as 'net nanny' or such ... And Im fairly sure that most 'children' who are surfing the net arent the ones who paid for it or set it up themselves ... most internet accounts are setup using a credit card anyway. Which in turn would prove that ALL the people with an internet account are 'adults'.

I just get the general impression that there is a lack of understanding among the politions when it come to issues of internet pornography, or better yet, the internet in general.

However, the article did mention this :
The recommendation follows moves in Britain, where the largest ISP, British Telecom, began blocking customers in June from accessing child pornography sites.

That does make sense, because really, NO-ONE should be looking at child pornography. In the same respect, how would the ISP stop this from happening? Would they provide content filters and keyword spiders for particular sites? Or would they find the sites themselves and block them. In which case, why wouldnt they just apply for those sites to be shut down in the first place?

Does anyone have Kate Lundy's number or email address?!

She's the Liberal's IT rep, and giving her the right info would really help this situation. I'm sick of seeing these stupid articles written and guided by people who have never used a computer in their lives.

What a shock, 93% of people voted to try to block violent porn, rape, beastiality and child porn ... imagine what the vote would be if the opposition learnt the difference between porn and illegal sexual activities.

Duh.

This next election is going to be scary, whoever gets in, there's going to be some negative changes for sure
