Wow, all the way to the end of the strip.

Mandalay has a ton of new and nearly new exhibit space, and the hotel is quite nice. More than enough clubs and stuff there as well, and that is, in my mind, the more active end of the strip. It's all good.

Easy to stay at any of about 5 hotels, New York New York, excalibur, MGM, Luxor, and Tropicana all right there, a nice variety of room types and prices. Heres to hoping that the room rates for the Mandalay are a little more believable.

$170 a night for that huge room wasn't believable?

I love those rooms at the Venetian and walking to the show floor was the only thing that kept me from gaining 10 pounds instead of 5 every show :)

But I'm easily adaptable - I'm sure I'll like MB too :)

and for the cheapskates, there's The Boardwalk, weekly apartments and a couple motels nearby ;-)))

Peaches, $170 for a room I won't see unless I get really lucky or really tired isn't exactly a bargain. The rooms in Miami are a crime ($145 to start), although the showers are worth at least $45 of that each day.

Last year vegas I stayed at Treasure Island. $60 a night, not terrible, and I slept just as much... and I honestly think the walk to the show floor wasn't much further.

It will be interesting if the video show is still at the sands... that will make for a weird booking arrangement.

From what I have heard, the video show is still in the sands, but that's 3rd or 4th hand info :awinky:

I honestly don't care if I only spend 4 hour a night in a room, I want it to be really, really nice with the best sheets, towels, shower, tub, thick walls and mini bar :) I tried staying at Harrah's one year and even though the price was right, I was very unimpressed. And with the extra "room" at the Venetian, when I took the kid last year we both comfortably fit at the V.

Color me spoiled :rokk:

Mandalay's nice, though you'll pay similar rates to Venetian for a much smaller room. Nice room....just smaller.

Good to have some variety. I tend to disagree about the choice of other hotels nearby though. Luxor might be ok, I haven't stayed there. Excalibur's rooms are almost as good as a Day's Inn. Tropicana is showing it's age. MGM is probably the ultimate middle of the road place to stay. Dunno about NY NY's rooms, but I hate the casino...

Anything else is a cab ride...

I have stayed at all of those hotels except New York New York...

Trop is older and a little lower dollar - but not terrible. Back tower many times better than the front or garden stuff.

Luxor isn't terrible, rooms just feel funny because of the slant of the outside wall. I also found them a little noisy on the lower floors, as the hallways are open to the casino, so you really only have a door between you and 10,000 noisy slot machines.

MGM is pretty nice, nothing special but the rooms are decent and the food choices in the hotel are pretty good. Don't forget the new monorail: http://www.lasvegastourism.com/las_vegas_monorails.htm

MGM is one end of the line... doesn't really go specifically to many useful places, but you could take it over to the imperial palace and get out to almost anything at that end of the strip.

Excalibur is, well, VERY average.

Don't forget the Monte Carlo as well, basically one block... after that things are a bit further... aladdin.. Paris, etc.

It's a nice change, I think.

Yeah, overall I think a break from Venetian is a good thing.

Though the last time I remember an adult show being on a Mandalay (formerly Circus Circus) property was the 98 show at Monte Carlo....and they weren't exactly friendly to some of the industry's more colorful behaviors... Never know how hotel management will react to a bunch of barely dressed women running around. Mandalay has a topless pool now though, so hopefully they'll be cool.

You're being kind.

I stayed there once...last time I ever let someone else book my room without me approving the itenerary.

It's dirt cheap! I think the regular run of the house rate is like $39 a night. And I would argue that it's overpriced!

Place was built in 1989, and I'm pretty sure the carpet is still the original. The rooms are spartan at best. No room service. Small bathroom, shower ONLY...there's no tub (if you travel with a female you get to hear 'em bitch about that EVERY night).

And the casino smells like feet.

According to the map, there is also a 4 Seasons next door. I have heard that they are nice.

In reality, that is a better end of the strip for "lower rent" hotel rooms. Motel 6, the San Remo, and there is even a Budget Suites just over the highway.

I suspect that Mandalay made them an offer they couldn't refuse. it will be nice to see the insides of some other hotel for 4 days, i guess.

It is still at the sands and overlaps on the 6th?

For those of us who do both shows its making life a living hell already :(

For all the belly-aching about the Venetian, I like it. It's tasteful, clean, and the service is 2nd to none.

My father-in-law tells me to stay at the Luxor, he stays there often. But I'm curious to try out Paris. I've heard only good things about it, and I love their casino.

Or... I could book out the top of the 4 seasons right now and lock it in.

Well, after all of the years TEASING us about moving it to Mandalay Bay - I'm glad that they finally went and DID IT. I love the Venetian - the bathtub and extra "living space" and the room service... I never had any of the problems that everyone else did with service @ that hotel. HOWEVER - change is good. I want the Venetian to be a "treat" not an every-year-gone-by-stand-by... we stayed @ the Mirage last year to shake things up and it was NOT something I would want to do again. Looking forward to MB, Luxor or something different this time around.

For folks wanting to do parties @ this show, remember that Mandalay Bay has some exciting unique opportunities:

http://www.mandalaybay.com/amenities/beach/

We went there with the kids once a few years ago and it was fantastic. We had watched the inside scoop on how they built the beach inside Mandalay Bay on the Travel Channel and just had to see it first hand. VERY cool and I've read that it CAN be rented for private parties. :rokk:

Quickbucks will be putting all their consultants up in the 4 seasons. A treat for creative marketing!

Somehow I don't think after Vancouver that the Four Seasons wants anything to do with wiseman.

The Vegas Four Seasons is very nice, the 180 suites have been voted the best in Vegas repeatedly.

Of course the House of Blues floor at Mandalay is also very cool, especially the first time you see it.

I think it will be a nice change. We did not have a booth this past year and so I didn't have to lug all our stuff all the way through the Venetian to the convention center, but it was still quite a trek every morning. Plus, the location will make things a lot easier if you want to grab drinks or dinner and not have to go across town in a cab. I'm looking forward to it. :D
