Given this some thought this morning - and don't think many will care for my thoughts

I've been told it's not 1998 anymore - that's right
So why are you asking how to get traffic? That's 1998.
Everyone left should be smart enough to look at what's going on and innovate, copy and adjust to suit their business

The hand holding days of the business are long over

I didn't say TGP's destroyed the paysite market, I did say they are a bad business model and not a friend to the (small) paysite owner

take the good with the bad.

a surfer who has seen tgp shit for a year or more is gonna get a little desensitized. when you convert someone on an extreme tour and/or offer lots of videos, no matter where the surfer came from, odds are he's seen and gotten sick of tgps.

JR

people act is if tgp's are just a massive menu of everything free a person could want. its also tons of blind links, pop ups, redirections, active X bs, resetting home pages, persistent dialers etc etc etc etc all of which has to be tolerated while trying to find the often elusive "free porn". people ignore that its not free at all. its fucking annoying as hell trying to find anything good because of all the bs that has to be tolerated to get there. nothing is "free"

on top of that, most of tgps (particularly the thumbnail ones) are the exact same content that rarely changes. so what do you care if some guy has a 100K a day tgp site with the same content that never changes, pops up windows, pops up dialer windows, redirects traffic and every other click or more is a blind link taking you to another TGP with the exact same content and same tricks?

it is a business that like all others has found it's own equilibrium between what works and what doesn't... whats too much and whats just right. i don't understand why business people here cannot see that.

by most peoples logic who oppose TGP's, they should not be profitable and should not exist because they do nothing but suck bandwidth and give everything away for free. but the simple fact is... thats not the case.

if you are right in your arguments against TGP's... then it would seem that you would also have to believe that they are imploding on themselves anyway, in which case it's just a matter of time and you win anyway... so why be so bent out of shape. people obviously can't give away everything for free and stay in business if that is truly the case right????

Vick

JR - we must not be looking at the same TGP's

Some are what you said but I can show you some where I can find 50,000 pix and MOVIES - FOR FREE!!
TGP's where the owners have rather restrictive (as is their right) regulations about what can be posted

I'll leave the other points for the radio show in 54 minutes

Hope to see ya there

I'm not sure how this is a war, but I guess that's not my call to make. At the end of the day there as many ways to get traffic and convert it as their are at least somewhat successful people in this industry and just because one person doesn't like or credit what another does, that's just the way it goes in any industry.

And then too, once the cat is out of the bag, you can't close the barn door ;-}}}}

I fully understand the concern CJ. But i think that many also refuse to accept the reality that the biz has changed quite a bit and TGP's have always taken a lot of blame for the incompetence in this biz. The whole biz is changing and evolving at the ... well... the speed of the internet. Business owners often are not and often seem to be looking at where to lash out at and point the finger for thier dwindling success.

Surfers are more educated now. They have a good idea of whats out there and where to find it. There are more choices and more sites than ever before. They have been members of others sites. They know for the most part all the tricks, scams all the BS and all the games that have allowed people to make massive profits in the past. They know now that most paysites are a joke. In fact, i have access to any paysite I want and quite honestly, each time I go to a new site expecting to be wowed, i am dissapointed.

There is a lot wrong with this industry and TGP's are just one part of the big picture.

Just like any other business, i personally believe that you have to focus on offering value and something unique because the same models of the past of relying on volume to make sales to a shitty site, with a shitty members area with poor retention is becoming a thing of the past.

The business models of the past are increasingly poor models of the Internet today.

I think that for the most part TGP's are an excuse. Not the problem.

Stuff happens ........

Was really looking forward to the show, had a page of notes and a glass of Dewars in hand

No it's not really a war, that was over long ago. A lot of it's me wailing against the wall. It's something I am passionate about and well versed on - business and profits!

Some of what JR posts has a point, but (I feel) he is missing some points and I (sincerely) disagree with some of what he posts.

A lot of the business now is about customer relations and customer service (as it should have always been - and has for me)

But do you really think John Q. Surfer can tell the difference between over 50,000 free pics and movies (including movies with the money shot) on a free very surfer friendly TGP and a paysite?

or would they even bother?

TGP's certainly did not cause the problems we are in.

Heck TGPs with gallries installing toolbars to pop up porn on surfers computer is the logical end of what started in 1996.

Think about it.

I like how fucking the surfer and missrepresenting what a paysite offers is now cleverly referred to as "over marketing"... that must be the fault of TGP's as well.
