You can see when a product is rising or falling away.
Spammers of course follow the money.

I agree pharmaceuticals tend to be the majority.
A lot of faked "dating site" responses as well lately, some to go to adult dating sites, some to an adult paysites. More and more software, both legit ones "on sale now" as well as pirated ones.

fake dating ones seem to get through to my regular email addresses the most.
the top type that end up on my server that havent been filtered are medical.

A sampling..
Pharma - 36
Selling software - 22
Loans - 14
Big dick pills - 9
Adult - 5
SE Optimization/hosting/logo design - 4
Degree - 4
Free Cable - 4
Personals - 3
Stock tips - 3
Spam filter software - 1
I've noticed an increase in stock tips lately although this sampling doesn't reflect it. I don't get much adult spam at the office.. I do on other accounts. By far the majority of my spam is trying to sell one pill or another.

Are you looked at unfiltered or filtered spam?
It's much easier for the filters to detect porn spam, so the count may be artifically low if you're making your counts from a filtered mailbox.

Mine is skewed a bit more because I actually have opted into a few places, mainly the BizOpp guys, so I get more Make Money on ebay and mare more money doing blabla than average
I also tend to get more survey spam because I fool around on mysurvey.com and surveyspot, so at least my spam somewhat resembles things I've actually opted into

I have 3 email addresses & I have found that the Adult count is only about 10%. At the first of the year, I started opting out of Adult programs & I think they have honored my wishes, much more than mainstream.
Unless you filter out every conceivable way to spell the different drugs.... they will always get through the filters.

Nah - adult spammers either use that valid email addy for mainstream or sell it to mainstream spammers
