I see more and more that conversation on boards and net radio shows about "the next show"... are you going? where are you staying? etc etc..

Is this because we've become a community of people who do nothing but sit in front of our keyboards 24 hours a day with little or no contact with anyone except those on our IM lists or the boards we frequent?

I used to go to every last webmaster show that was scheduled within continental North America. I stopped going to most shows about a year ago. I simply don't have the time. I'm working too hard when I am online, and I need to spend time with my family and offline friends. If not I'd probably go insane!

How much time do you spend offline, away from the biz, with family and friends?

I get outside to cut my grass... does that count?

And I refuse to bring my cell phone when I'm doing that... :headwall: :headwall: :headwall:

I have gotten to the point I don't login to icq in the evenings.. although I'm often still working. Weekends I have been spending a great deal of time outside.. mowing, working on the kennel, occasional shopping trips with the wife. My cell doesn't ring at my house and the barn/kennel is so far away from the house that the portable doesn't ring.. when I take off across the property nobody can contact me. I haven't taken a vacation of any kind in a year but I've been busy and haven't even noticed.

You mentioned icq friends.. most of those people are my friends in real life. haha

I've been making an effort to spend daddy Days with my kids. Every Saturday I spend time with one of my children by themselves, so they get some time with daddy by themselves.

My kids have also taken a huge interest in music and are already talking about starting a band, so I've been working hard to encourage them to practice and have fun writing little songs for their mother or me. I'm renovating the third bay in the garage into a small recording studio for the kids to just mess around in and enjoy their music even more.

The shows are almost like a vacation for me. I only plan on attending a handful and plan on going a day early and staying a day late at each one to get a little "me" time as well.

With a fourth child on the way, we're all taking what time we can now to relax.

I've even thought about getting back into music and hooking up with a local casino/nightclub band and just play for fun on the weekends for beer money and to exert some of this built up energy.

Sure it counts. Any time spent away from the keyboard counts. :P

Does drinking count?

Seriously, I've been lagging the past 2 1/2 weeks, but I try to do sports for about an hour and half at least 3 times a week.

Going back to it next week.

Taking from Colin, walking. Can't beat it.
