It's been a movie weekend - too hot to do anything outside until about 7 and I'm relaxing this weekend. :P
The Cooler - good to great - 3.5 stars
Big Fish - GREAT! I loved this movie :) - 4 stars
Also finished reading Middlesex - loved it.
All in all, a very entertaining weekend :okthumb:

I loved "The Cooler" one of my favorite moves of last year (didn't make my top 10 list because I hadn't seen it at the time I initially made the list)
You can't lose with Alec Baldwin and Bill Macy chewing up the scenery in the same movie.

Yeah, Bill Macy just amazes me - he was AWESOME! :bjump:
And I SO did not expect the ending - those are always my favorite movies. :awinky:

When I see it, I'll give my review. Somehow I have a feeling I'll only be forced to watch it with a male who's say, I don't know, 21 or so and related to me. :okthumb:

Tonight is Master and Commander. I've had these movies since the end of April and made this weekend "Movie weekend" :) Thank goodness for Netflix and no late fees. :P
I'll give my review tomorrow. :okthumb:

KC and I are about to watch The Cooler, I will report back.
I didn't love Big Fish.
We started listening to the unabridged version of Middlesex on our drive from CA to AK last summer and didnt finish it on the drive so I would be here running errands and drive 30 mins out of my way to finish the tape! I LOVED it!

You and I usually have the same tastes in these things - I'm surprised about Big Fish :(
What is your experience in book CDs? I LOVE reading and always feel I'm going to miss out on the reading enjoyment with the CDs. My brother and SIL love them but neither are really big readers.
Ended up spending most of the time outside looking at a newborn fawn. I tried to get some pictures but my camera is old, it was cloudy and they were in the woods, so they didn't come out well. Cute thing though :)
Hopefully I'll have some time in the next month or so to watch Master and Commander :awinky:

Blockbuster has a special now. Any two movies out for as long as you like. Only 24.99 a month.

Agree on both of those Peaches, both really good.
Master and Commander also good, watched it in DTS sound mode, during the one battle scene with all the swords clanging our cat went berserk and tried to jump up to the ceiling fan. (she almost made it too)
I so much want to go on one of the "tall ship" cruises. I lovethe ocen - maybe I was a pirate in a previous life.

Always with the pirate!!!
People mention an earlier life and it was always cool.
pirate , not a blinded and crippled galley slave ;-)))
Cleopatra's minister. not abdul the camel shit shoveller ;-))
fucking Shirley Maclaine!
;-))))
I did watch "The Cooler" last night cause of this thread , and thought it was OK. Liked Baldwin's character.
Master and Commander I thought was a little too long and played like different parts were directed by a different director but an alright movie.
(I tend to give movies a 20 minutes and either switch them off or walk out of the cinema , probably ADHD , so any movie I actually watch all the way through is prolly pretty good) ;-))

I think you'd enjoy this one Serge... Woman stomping a man... 1930s style... Plus Marlene has GREAT gams... :wnw:

I caught that... Helium-filled sex dolls are killers!!! Beware!!!!
BTW... what do you think of this season? I like it much better than last year already... a story line, it's progressing and the characters seem fairly true to form. Not sure I love the "new" Brenda yet, but I'm waiting for her to get whacked out again and get back to "normal" soon...
Already anxious for Carnivale again as well. Any clue as to when that starts up? I swear I'm hooked on HBO!
Oh... and back to the topic... loved Big Fish - thought Master & Commander was OK - loved the original stories, wish they hadn't started with the final book - it could have been a good trilogy if they'd done it right.

last month I signed up for the new Blockbuster thing in the UK that is like Netflix and I love it! I have seen so many movies this month. I think because of the size of the UK they get the DVDs turned around really fast.
So far this month on DVD I have seen:
City Of God - very good
Goodbye Lenin - not as good as I wanted it to be but I am also aware that a lot of the humour is directed at people that grew up in Eastern Germany and just might
skip over my head. So, I put it down as interesting rather than great.
American Splendor - An okay movie but the editing and the combination of animation and live action was really good.
Goodfellas - Okay, I admit that i had never seen it before. I was too young when it came out but that was a really good movie.
The Truth About Cats and Dogs - good chick flick even if it is just Cyrano de Bergerac with a gender switch.
Finding Nemo - Cute but no Toy Story.
In the Cinema I saw Harry Potter which was the best of the three so far.
I have Insomnia sitting here ready to watch but it is coded so i can't watch it on my computer which ticks me off since I tend to watch them while I work. They sent out Thirteen yesterday so I should have it in the morning.

I have been thinking of joining netflix. Seems a lot of people like it, and I am waaaayyyy behind on movies.
I did catch "What Women Want" with Mel Gibson on TBS last week. I thought it was funny as hell even though it would probably be classified as a "chick flick."
