NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Ronald Reagan's face could soon adorn the $10 bill or half the dimes minted in the country, if fans of the late president get their way, according to a published report.

USA Today reported Tuesday that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., plans to sponsor legislation to have Reagan replace Alexander Hamilton, the nation's first treasury secretary, on the $10 bill. The proposal has the support of Ronald Reagan Legacy Project, which is headed by Grover Norquist, an influential conservative activist.

The paper says Democrats in Congress are not a ready to embrace the idea, though none would come out opposed to the idea in the wake of Reagan's death Saturday.

The decision about who is on currency is up to the secretary of treasury. A spokeswoman for current Treasury Secretary John Snow said any discussion of putting Reagan on the bill is "premature." But the paper quotes Norquist as saying that he has already had discussions with Snow and senior White House staff about the idea and found no opposition.

If Reagan is not put on the $10, an alternate proposal is to have half the nation's dimes carry Reagan's face, with the other half continuing to honor Franklin D. Roosevelt. The idea of removing Roosevelt from the dime altogether in favor of Reagan had enough opposition, even from Nancy Reagan, to be dropped, the paper said.

One person opposing removing Hamilton from the $10 bill is Ron Chenow, author of an acclaimed biography of the revolutionary war hero and founding father. He told USA Today that he believed Reagan would have objected to the snub of Hamilton.

"Hamilton was the prophet of the capitalist system that Ronald Reagan so admired," he said.

Yes, the value of the dollar vs euro for instant - dollar down 4% in 3 weeks because of good numbers from the US  ... bankers worry to much :)

Now I wouldn´t mind Ronnie on $10 bills - maybe it will bring good luck, and protect the dollar value from major ups/downs :)

Amen, TE!! I knew Ronnie lost his mind. but apparently it's contagious!

Mike, go get a "Bedtime for Bonzo" poster off of Ebay or something. :)

Now Greenspan to some day replace Hamilton? Yeah. Now that I could go for!

"Last November, Gallup asked the public -- in an open-ended format -- whom they regarded as the greatest U.S. president. Reagan placed third on the list, behind only Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. Reagan has consistently placed in the top five since the question was first asked in 1999, and actually topped the list in a 2001 poll conducted around the celebration of his 90th birthday."

Isn't that grounds for consideration? Personally, if people really want Reagan on money I'd go with the $50 bill. I wouldn't replace Hamilton or Roosevelt myself.

If the people want it, then yes. And I agree. I'd rather replace Grant.

Though I still think, one day, Greenspan will be a natural successor to Hamilton. (Hey Benjie is on the $100 and Susan B on the old $1 coin, so why not? Doesn't have to be presidents as Hamilton himself shows.)

At least no one is mentioning Mt. Rushmore. Yet! *whew*

* Remembering the Dead: Reagan Foreign Policy From the Target End *

We continue our week-long series "Remembering the Dead" focusing on the policies of Reagan's administration. The history of his eight years in power represented one of the most bloody eras in the history of the Western hemisphere as Washington funneled money, weapons and other supplies to right wing death squads. We look at Reagan's foreign policy in Central America from the target end with former Nicaraguan foreign minister Fr. Miguel D'Escoto, congressional medal of honor winner Charlie Litkey and veteran investigate journalist Allan Nairn.

fucking idiots!

Put Reagan on $250 dollars bill!

The current top at $100 is outdated and doesn't reflect present realities and what inflation has done to the buying power of the $100.

Mr. Snow, you don't have to mention my name and can take FULL credit for this idea,
I am seek and tired replacing wallets every year!

Reagan, lied to the country about weapons deals , and secret nation building plots too. He did have a strong swagger to him, and was brilliant in bringing down the soviet wall, though however, and I think he was an OK leader for the most part... ( a lot of skeletons in that closet though)

But I do not think that he deserves that much of an honor.

He doesn't, as anyone who knows anything Iran-Contra will tell you, but the republicans in their typical brutish fashion continue to ram thru renaming airports and streets in his honor.

They've already learned that half the country will believe whatever they tell them if they shriek it loudly and long enough.

funny how you percieve this to be one sided. you are the anti-limbaugh, no more right, no more balanced and no more rational than those you hate.

who is trying to convince who of what by shrieking loudly and long enough?

JR, political specter is a circle,
and extreme right touches extreme left.

Nazis were extreme right, commies were extreme left but...they have more in common than they are apart.

same with ultra liberals and ultra conservatives.

dig and joesho are not any different than ashcroft and fallwell in their beleives even though they try not to see it.
