The Day After Tomorrow

It's not often I can watch a propaganda film and be converted by the message; in fact, to date this is a first. I went to see this movie yesterday, and despite the fact that the little black girl of about 9 who was seated behind me informed her parents in a very loud and angry voice that "It [the movie] wasn't tight -- it was stupid and boring" (a sentiment most of the theatre agreed with, judging by their (and my) laughter), I was swayed by the power of the special effects.

That's right, I am now a believer in global warming -- a condition which will destroy both New York and Los Angeles, the former under a 50 foot flood and the latter by means of a super-tornado. And the Japs? They killed our boys in the great World War II, so guess whether or not I'll grin when they get bombarded with cocunut-sized hail. Don't bray your irrelevent physics at me -- I saw the movie -- it says hail can get that big, so God-willing I can produce enough pollution to get the job done.

I used to hold out hope that an alternative fuel source to petroleum would be developed so we could cripple the economy of terror in the Middle East, but this solution, Pro-Pollution, is better.

My new mantra: Pro-Pollution -- The Global Solution!

(What do you think? Of course I didn't pay to go see it, you idiot.)

Buffy, that little nine year old black girl gave a more sophisticated analysis of this piece of shit film in eight words than you managed to in several paragraphs.

I'd say that makes you an idiot.

What do you think?

I think you remind me of a pre-op Charlie Gordon.

so, Buff, should we go and watch it or wait for DEVD?

It's not clear from your review
;-)))

Wait for the DVD -- it starts off ok, but it shoots its wad halfway through and the last half of the movie will bore you senseless.

Not gonna see it -- the idea of Brad Pitt as Achilles, while comedically ingenius, would ruin the movie for me. Besides, I was told that if you go in expecting the Iliad, you'll want to kill everyone associated with the project -- and I'm one of the guys who doesn't think Hollywood can improve on Homer.

Haven't seen The Day After Tomorrow.

Probably won't see The Day After Tomorrow until it hits cable.

But I have to say that I think that anyone who believes that The Day After Tomorrow is a propaganda film is, IMHO, far more likely than the average person to put tinfoil on their windows, and believes that Independence Day was also a propaganda film.

I´m not much of a fan about doomsdays type films - find them boring in the long run, since the concept/story/plot is given from the start...

However speaking of films, then Alexander http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/alexander/ looks good - too bad we have to wait until November.

the other movie I wanted to see this summer was
I, Roboit
(even though I am not fond of the actor playing the role)

Buff I though any movie with Brad Pitt would have you waiting at the door to see it over and over and over ...................

Brad Pitt is a good "cute face" actor,
he is NOT Ahilles..or he is the first Greek I ever seen without beard.

About sums up my feeling on that movie too. I understand it strays considerably from Asimov's books but it looks like a decent action flick.

I saw Day After Tomorrow yesterday (that's a confusing sentence!).

I enjoyed the eye candy, the effects were very good and are probably best enjoyed on the big screen.

The story on the other hand was predictable. It'll test your ability to suspend your sense of disbelief. These people were all calm and orderly. This happens for real there's gonna be looting and total chaos as people kill each other as the herd totally panics.

The propoganda message backfired on me. It only reinforced what I've known all along. Dont worry about saving the earth, save the humans! The earth will take care of itself. It's been here for 2 billion years, while we've only been around for a couple of ticks of the geological clock.

Whatever we fuck up, the earth will fix. Mother Nature is patient, what we fuck up in 100 years, she's more than patient enough to spend 10,000-100,000 years fixing. We're on our fucking own when that happens. Melt away the ice caps, fine, we'll just have another ice age and refresh them.

PD, you should wait til you see it before you say that. The VP looks like Cheney's twin... you know what, I bet EVEN YOU will say it's propaganda after you see it.
