It's a sad thing indeed. But, can we use this as an ambition to become the "mega rich" ? I think so.
I was doing a nice 120mph (t-tops off) weave through traffic today, and, sure enough, I was happy with my car and the fun I was having, but couldn't help thinking.....people see me fly by and go "cool car!"...but they aren't going "daaaamn thats a lamborghini flying by!!".
So, is being only somewhat happy by mediocre (as i would define it) materialism a blessing by encouraging you to do more and to make more and to become more?
Is it? (for once I can't answer this question with certainty).
Sure I have a substance filled girlfriend but that doesnt make me happy enough either. 250 million plus has gotta be the ending point, where i can say, YES, I can buy anything I want and I have most certainly "made it". Everything else is just extra (woman who loves me for me etc), I got what I came for. No?
wierd thread i gues... leave that to my sunday night rantings.
Thoughts/comments?

could have been another thread?
the only thing from you in that thread I saw was "I hope you picked it up at a flea market for $5 "
I saw the title and I thought 'surely we couldn't be wrong about a 3rd person who we thought was a moron but is turning out to be ok' ....
And then I see 'My camero doesn't make me happy enough but a lamborghini would'
*shaking head*
all I can say is WOW, you are going to be disappointed LMAO
You think happiness is having people look at you and think you are cool?!
I'm sad to say, but your life lesson is going to really hurt ... you are going to fall so hard from that pedistal you have yourself on. :( Unfortunately for you, there is no other future ahead of you with that attitude, except a very unhappy, lonely one.

Pushpills, I've lived it more than you could ever even dream about - the details will be in the book
MY LIFE IN THE AUSTRALIAN PORN MAFIA
What you aim to be, I have been a part of. I've watched men who have achieved all the things you THINK you are capable of achieving spiral into a living nightmare because of the mindset 'more money and i will be happy'.
Its funny you used a Lamborghini as the example ... Serge sees why and so will many others here. You didn't choose this car because you like it, you choose it because its the most impressive to others. Why live your life trying to impress people you drive past on the freeway? Most of them will hate you because you have something they don't.
The only difference between you and Lasrado is that he actually hit $10 million ... you never will.
When I turned 25 I became so sick from the stress of trying reach material goals that I am STILL unable to live a normal life & have permanent damage I will be dealing with for the rest of my life. While you crap on about the future and shit you have no idea about, the rest of us are living LIFE - not living a movie.
Why I am wasting my breath I'll never know. I guess I hoped you could be slowed down before you crash ... but fuck ya, i hope you learn the hard way.

I got lazy and got passed by when everyone else in this business made millions...yet, the one constant I had was a supportive family and wife who put up with my shit through thick and thin.
This is something the grogans in life will never know the satisfaction of. They will constantly be worried about what people think of them, and it'll be the wrong people. It's not what idiots on a message board think of you or the 18 year old cheerleader who's impressed with your Camarro thinks of you. It's much deeper than that.

I like this thread.....Cj it sounds as you and i have lead a similar path...as i think many of the early webmasters in this biz have lead...
i went through 5 (yes 5) Ferrari's in 2 years just because i got tired of them...it was never enough i figured a new one every few months would would make me sleep at night...but it was not so.
fact was i was not happy with the direction this industry and myself ware heading...anything for the money....no line to big to cross as long as i got the cash......
then i woke up.
now i just dabble here and there.....do what makes me happy...and i sleep at night.....the ulcers are going away and i feel much better......alot of these guys are young and these are simply life lessons they are trying to learn....i like being able to sit back and watch.....the whole time getting a chuckle out of it and spending more time with my children,my wife and my friends all of whom i neglected for my first 6 years in this biz.....

For me, I find happiness in each day. I try not to think about the past or worry about the future. Happiness comes from within, whether you drive a lambo or an old beater... If you aren't happy, all the money in the world won't change a thing.

Dear Abby, Dear Abby ...
My feet are too long
My hair's falling out and my rights are all wrong
My friends they all tell me that I've no friends at all
Won't you write me a letter, Won't you give me a call
Signed Bewildered
Chorus:
Bewildered, Bewildered
You have no complaint
You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't
So listen up Buster, and listen up good
Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood
Dear Abby, Dear Abby...
My fountain pen leaks
My wife hollers at me and my kids are all freaks
Every side I get up on is the wrong side of bed
If it weren't so expensive I'd wish I were dead
Signed Unhappy
Unhappy, Unhappy
You have no complaint
You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't
So listen up Buster, and listen up good
Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood
Dear Abby, Dear Abby...
You won't believe this
But my stomach makes noises whenever I kiss
My girlfriend tells me It's all in my head
But my stomach tells me to write you instead
Signed Noise-maker
Noise-maker, Noise-maker
You have no complaint
You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't
So listen up Buster, and listen up good
Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood
Dear Abby, Dear Abby...
Well I never thought
That me and my girlfriend would ever get caught
We were sitting in the back seat just shooting the breeze
With her hair up in curlers and her pants to her knees
Signed Just Married
Just Married, Just Married...
You have no complaint
You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't
So listen up Buster, and listen up good
Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood
Glad to see I wasn't the only one the Dear Abby song came to mind

Wow Voo!!!! It took me months to read it the first time LOL I would pause for days at every pause mark!!!
It was a truly life changing book for me ... perfect for anyone who has problems with brain noise! (ie, unnecessary thinking - constantly!)

I am the type of person who has to read something a few times before it really starts sinking in, so right now I'm giving it the first run in order to get a broad overview.
And no HellPuppy, it ain't Mad magazine. hahaha
I can absolutely see how it would take months (or years) to read. I'm on total information overload right now... I'll finish the first go this week, and then I'll take my time with it on the second try. That ought to keep me busy until January Internext or so... :awinky:
So far it is an excellent book. Right on the money as far as I am concerned... :)

I think people that want to make money to make themselves happy are going to end up being disappointed. Some of the happiest people i know are barely able to pay the rent each week. On the other end of the spectrum, i know quite a few rich people who couldn't be happier, either. But i know a lot more wealthy people who are constantly stressed out and generally unhappy with their lives.
To me, making money isn't about happieness. It's about security and freedom.
And being happy based on whether someone you don't know thinks your car is cool or not? You'll never be happy until you deal with your serious self esteem issues, man.

I forgot to mention that there are obviously plenty more people who are barely able to pay the rent that are just as stressed as their rich counterparts. The point basically being that if you look at people, you'll find happy and unhappy people at every economic level. Money has nothing to do with happiness. The sooner some people realise, the better off their lives will be.

i think my self esteem is fine, looking cool to people i've never met is something I like. some people like kitty cats and the smell of roses. I don't.

Steve - I've stayed out of this subject so far but ......
Anyone who is impressed by a 90's Camero generally isn't worth impressing
Where I live Camero's are viewed as redneck cars unless it's a vintage Camero that has been lovingly/painstakingly restored
Think about it, why would you want to impress or even know anyone who's impressed by a $20,000 car? :(

ahh, my car is unique looking. in a town filled to the brim of mercedes and vettes, I turn heads more than they do. Redneck camaros = any camaro that isn't mine.
I'll get a six figure car eventually, but not for a couple years.
why do we always end up talking about my camaro.

Its also the definition of denial.
:agrin:
Ah Steve Grasshopper - you just don't get it ... yet
What might be slightly impressive (to me) is that you were able to buy the car yourself at 20something or 19
as far as being an impressive vehicle, see my above statements. It really isn't or anyone impressed by that car isn't worth impressing

Steve, here are some past "pearls" on this topic:
Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.
--Benjamin Franklin
By all means marry. If you get a good wife you will become happy, and if you get a bad one you will become a philosopher.
--Socrates (470-399 B.C.)
Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
--Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)
They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world. Someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for.
--Tom Bodett
Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.
--H. L. Mencken
The best way for a person to have happy thoughts is to count his blessings and not his cash There is no goal better than this one: to know as you lie on your deathbed that you lived your true life, and you did whatever made you happy.
--Steve Chandler 100 Ways to Motivate Yourself
And finally........................................... ...................
Did you ever see an unhappy horse? Did you ever see a bird that has the blues? One reason why birds and horses are not unhappy is because they are not trying to impress other birds and horses.
--Dale Carnegie

I guess I hoped you could be slowed down before you crash ... but fuck ya, i hope you learn the hard way.
book? really? let us know when it comes out cause id love to read it.
if this was a joke, then excuse my blonde moment cause i didnt get it (clueless is my alter ego at times). :)

Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You're a slave to the money
Then you die
I'll take you down the only
Road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to
The places where all the veins meet, yeah
No change
I can change
I can change
I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I'm a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
Well I never pray
But tonight I’m on my knees, yeah
I need to hear some sounds that
Recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine
Let it cleanse my mind
I feel free now
But the airways are clean
And there’s nobody singing to me now
No change
I can change
I can change
I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
From one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can't change
I can't change
Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money
Then you die
I’ll take you down the only

No, no, no, no, no
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can't change
Can't change my body
No, no, no
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road 'Ive ever been down
