Ok..I'm here, tired of doing my design work and wanna give something back to the community. I used to do it all the time on Netpond..when I worked for them. Now it's time for me to do something for Oprano.
BUT!!! I am thinking of doing something different.

Tell me what your worst mistake in this business has been.

Winner gets 10 free banners done.

hey now..its free..and gives me a break from my daily routine.

I'm safe - I don't have a street. Or even grass, really. :)

Lets see...

I probably have not made my biggest mistake in business yet, as I am still alive, but:

1. Joining the Navy... Put me about 8 years behind my peers, so for a long time it was playing catch up.

2. Ignoring the net for the first couple of years... Didnt get into any heavy web programming at all until 99 or so.

3. Not doing my own thing, instead working for other folks as an employee rather than as an independent.

4. Not following through on my own projects enough.

5. Avoiding being labeled a "salesman" with all my being because I couldn't stand the folks I knew with that label... Sales is the driving force behind all business and always will be.

damn, there are so many :(

Thats the whole idea.

Makes you think and help you get back on track.
Thats the whole idea of this contest.

Not only help someone with banners..but makes them think and get on track again.

I would say my biggest mistake was being complacent with success. Assuming since I am successful today, I will be successful tommorow without having to improve.

My biggest mistake? Hmmm ... Depending on others to actually do what they're supposed to do.

Still a tough one to avoid to this day. Gotta have employees and outside contractors and such. Can't do everything, can't learn or know everything. So you have to delegate and you have to get (what you think at the time) are the right people inside or outside to do things.

Mind you, overall, my judgement has been a lot more right than it has been wrong ... but whooboy, the few wrongs can majorly make you feel like you've been anally-probed! (And not in a good way, Serge, hehe)

Again, though, tough to get around to this day. :( (But I'd be happy to hear any suggestions!)

And -- no one on this board, btw, seriously -- but damn I have to say in my experience that over all (not saying all of 'em, just in my experience most of 'em) it's the programmers who are the freaking worse of anyone in terms of keeping anything remotely called a deadline. Whatever they say, just add eight years on to the estimated time of completion and you'll be getting close to the actual delivery date. Maybe.

Grrrr ... See what you started, Jeff? Damn ya! :)

My first mistake was to send my traffic to a guy because he was a Brit and I thought I could trust him <_<

The second mistake was that it took me 2 months to realise I was getting screwed... and the sum'bitch didn't live where his domains where registered too :grrr:

Point A: Trust no-one

Point B: If it looks and sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true!

lol Drav..well yanno..sometimes it takes a little something like this to get a persons mind to go back and think about some of the things where they made errors at and help themselves get back on track..where they left off.

Some of those things, we forget what made our successful and we forget our roots. It helps up realize and get back to those same tasks, as we did before.

Just like networking more, brainstorming ideas to build our company better and so forth. Building the better mouse trap.

People would be suprised, if they looked back at some of the things, they have learned in this business a few years ago and forgot. Only to go back to do some of those things and makes life a little easier.

Thats the whole idea.
Remembering our previous mistakes, avoiding them and build that better mouse trap.

Keep them coming..there are a few good ones in here.

Actually..not bored.
Just felt the need to do something.
I was geeting bored doing my latest site redesign and needed something different toshift me away from it..even for a few hours.

Like networking..lol
Plus, giving something back to the community.

Few of my buds, I haven't chatted in a while with them..people like Bestat, Sykk, DoKK and a few others.
