Was that profit or just the amount gambled? And are you including ALL porn in your theory or just internet? Just the US or international sales?

Personally, I'd be VERY surprised if the INTERNET porn industry generated more in PROFITS than gambling in the US. But I'm usually wrong in fiduciary matters. :(

Peaches, those were GROSS numbers.

44 Las Vegas Casinos generated 4.8 bil in revenues compared to 12! Casinos in Macau, China generated...3.5 bils in revenues.

interesting numbers of revenues per table.

and...Venetian owners are the FIRST Vegas casino with presense in Macau.

and...I know that because one of my ETF's has their junk bonds in the portfolio

Depends on how you define porn. Does this include live entertainment such as strip clubs and such? What about porn delivered on PPV at hotels?

Don't forget video/DVD sales and rentals and the real biggie... magazines...

Do the gambling figures include OTB's, Lotteries and the like as well?

It's a toughie.

But I'd gamble on the SEX industry in total NOT being bigger than GAMBLING as an industry.

if given the unique opportunity to own your own casino, ( not necassarily in Vegas)

How many of you here would like to look into that possibility?

I'd guess porn is just a drop in a very large bucket called gaming.

I think you are correct.

MikeAI, KK you are both WRONG:

http://www.worldandi.com/subscribers/searc...l.asp?num=23779 (http://www.worldandi.com/subscribers/searchdetail.asp?num=23779)

"Consider: Sex is the No. 1 topic searched for on the Internet. Gambling is second.

Americans spend $10 billion per year on porn, as much as they spend on sporting events, movies, or music. Paul Fishbein, founder and president of Adult Video News magazine and promoter of the show Kroft attended, said there are 800 million rentals each year of adult videotapes and DVDs.
"

if you can provide me with a link saying the opposite-
I'll be delighted...

PLEASE delight me

You mean like this article in Forbes that basically says Fishbein and AVN make shit up to make it look bigger than it really is?

I would figure that the ipsp's process more than half of the internet business that comes through. If you take an estimation of their numbers and double it, I don't see porn coming close to gaming, especially if you add up the gambling from all the casinos worldwide...

KK, I wasn't reffering to Internet at all!

I was comparing REAL casinos in Vegas and Macau and was more thinking about REAL porn vs REAL gambling, therefore, your internet numbers from processors are not relevant

Real porn... would that include numbers from prostitution?

I'd say it's even more in gambling's favor then Serge.

without any solid numbers from sex industry, we are guessing how many devils can dance on the tip of the needle
