Hey Peaches -- you have any of these cicada critters on your side of the river?

Someone called me from the other side of the river, and I could hear 'em on the phone, sounded like a freaking fire alarm or something.

Normally you can barely hear yourself think, they are so loud! I've had several visitors request that I "please turn down the crickets" :P But so far (knock wood) in the year we're supposed to have the worse infestation, the hills are the quietest EVER. It's very weird - the silence is deafening.

That's what I fear :P

I like the sound - better than the sound of cars anyday. :okthumb:

I just came back from a nice time outside and STILL nothing. The bullfrogs down on the lake - that's a different story. They are in fine form tonight. :P

Any place that has had a lot of escavation in the past 17 years would've destroyed the crop.

Over in CRR I'm told they were loud as heck up on the hillside, but down on the river there NOTHING.

Interesting. My house was built in 97 and I'm the only house w/in visual distance. The lake's been here for at least 20 years so you'd THINK I'd have lots of 17 year old cicadas coming up :( But seriously, this is the 4th spring I've spent here and this is by far the most quiet it has EVER been.

Now I want to go over to CRR so I can hear them :)

If they're still going this weekend and I get time to ride up there and hear 'em, I'll give you a shout so you can come check it out too. I also hear there are shells all over the place where they've crawled out of 'em. Sounds nasty to me.

I've heard 'em over the phone....the amount of noise was impressive. I've never heard anything like it.

Yeah, LMK as this is the last weekend I'll be around for the next few weeks.

In FL we used to pick the shells off the trees - they're really pretty cool :) They're paper thin and light brown. And trust me, the live ones are so retarded you'd rather deal with the shells.

The "infestation" is only supposed to last for a week or so, right? Usually you can hear mine over the phone too (I've freaked out a lot of people "Why the HELL do you have crickets inside the house??!"), but as we all know, I have to be different and it looks like my bugs are the same way. :P
