Just wondering how many people thought of Risk before they clicked the link. I should have made a poll.

Guilty (of thinking of Risk).

Anyone ever play the board game "Diplomacy"? Always thought it looked cool but never played.

Austral-Asia... 2 extra men every go and build build build... Eddie Izzard had it right, just not worth the hassle for 7 extra men...

I always liked Australia. Few attack points and some bonus armies early on.

Vick,

"Don't let them see you coming. That's the gaff, my friend -- make yourself small. Be the hick. The cripple. The nerd. The leper. The freak. Look at me -- I've been underestimated from day one. Do I look like a master of the universe?"

South and North America -- take them both and you only have 3 borders to defend (each border against only 1 country) and 7 extra men (2 + 5).

Unfortunately Buff, you constantly have Africa coming across to SA as it's easier to take that first than Europe. NA looks easy to defend, but whoever gets stuck with trying to take EU (and the poor fuck that's deluded into thinking they can hold Asia) will be a constant thorn in your side. If playing with a full board, that's more than likely 3 different players you are battling against. With the purple powerhouse of AA you are usually only fighting 1 or 2 at the most (and they generally aren't too concerned about losing those green territories)... Just a matter of taking country, falling back to build reserves, getting that card and then maximizing when you turn in your cards. Isolating the unlucky Asia guy and saving him for the plucking (and getting his cards) is popular play as well.

Geeze - i haven't played "Diplomacy" since high school when I was hanging with a bunch of d&d ubergeek chessclub types, most of all who, oddly enough now hold upper level positions in several fortune 500 companies... hmmm...
