View Full Version : Longest ovation in Cannes Festival history

RawAlex
05-17-2004, 01:02 PM
from drudge:

"20 mins standing ovation for FAHRENHEIT 9-11, yelling, screaming, cheering... 'This is the longest stading ovation in the history of the festival! Unbelievable!' declared Cannes stalwart Thierry Fremaux. Moore, raising fist, unable to speak over crowd, vows to fight... Controversial scene in film shows wounded American GI in Iraq talking about how Democrats must win election... Movie shows video of U.S. soldiers laughing as they place hoods over Iraqi detainees, with one of them grabbing a prisoner's genitals through a blanket... "

timing is everything.

he'd be Rich and Famous in the old USSR/Hitler's Germany,
people like him were the cornerstones of the regime's propaganda machines which brainwashed MILLIONS at the cost of 160,000,000 in just Germany and USSR.

No doubt MM is a masterful propagandist!

Of course the people in Cannes are going to cheer for him, look who is attending. This is not a film festival for normal people. The people who are in Cannes are liberal elite Americans, or rich elite Europeans - both groups are Anti-American.

it would get the standing ovation as well.....

Now, Serge ... you know damned good and well that if an anti-establishment individual like Michael Moore had lived in Berlin or Moscow in 1940, there never would have been a film.

Good little functionaries like Mike would have killed him for his anti-state (i.e., don't think like me) views a long time before he ever would have gotten the project off the ground.

Very good point

thought about it for a few minutes, maybe I'm jealous of Moore's ability, fame and $

But Moore is much more damaging/dangerous than any politician, politicians are by nature disliked and not trusted. When Moore spreads his distorted viewpoints (satire packaged and accepted as documentary) it is accept as truth by many

Where in the world do you think Moore got footage of

PD, this is pure bullshit.

From the book of RUSSIAN writer, "Nurnberg Trial" by Boris Polevoi.

"American journalist pronounced: there is no freedom in USSR. I can go to the White House with the sign: Our President is a fool" Can you do that?

Russian journalist replied:
Of course I can! I have no problems going to the Red Square with a sign:
"American President is a fool"

Alex, I was pointing out that the guy is probably French, and probably very Anti-American. If Moore would have filmed himself pissing on a poster of Bush Thieery would have had the same reaction!

Clear thinking people know and understand propaganda, even when it servers their own cause.

Moore has been a propaganist since he started.... If you want to take it as the truth, that is your business. You probably love Oliver Stone as well.

Mike ... you are a typical pseudofacist elitist attempting to prevent the truth from being told to the masses.*

Serge ... I guess I missed your point, and you are sure as hell avoiding mine. I know the Nazis (just because of Mike's response) and suspect the Commies would have enjoyed Moore's film, assuming that most of what I'm hearing about it is true.

The simple fact of the matter is, suppressing this film in the rather clumsy way they've gone about it has overtones of Nazi/Commie behavior all its own.

I still think that if the film Disney refused to release was an Oliver North production of an Ann Coulter script, Alex would be defending them, Mike would be reciting the "biasedliberalmedia" mantra, and Vick would be posting that it's all futile and we should all go kill ourselves.

Oh, wait ... Vick's already posting that.

* - Yes, Mikey, I realize how stupid that sounds. However, it's always best to speak Italian to Italians. Consequently, stupid is the most appropriate language to use in this instance.

PD you are barking up the wrong tree. I think every movie should be allowed to be released in the US. I have no idea what Disney was trying to do. ( I suspect they were covering their asses because what plays big in Cannes does not play well to middle America)

The movie could be released in every theate in the US and I would not have a problem with it.

But I reserve the right to make fun of it, and make fun of those who think Moore movies are documentaries.

First of all, I haven't seen this fucking film. I'm not going to defend it (because some of its defenders annoy the fuck out of me) nor am I going to attack it (because many of its detractors are stupid fucks who dismiss anything they don't agree with as being anti-American propaganda).

As far as where he got the footage ... I don't doubt that it could have been staged, but I see no reason to assume that. As you may have heard in recent coverage of other matters, there are an awful lot of cameras in Iraq, Vick ...

probably not
kind of hard to go up against the Big J

I think it'll make more than "Bowling For Columbine" but probably less than "Van Helsing" (Michael Moore needs to embrace crappy, CGI if he REALLY wants to be accepted in Hollywood)

Here's the rub - at least for me - and we've been down this road before

Moore work is presented as documentary when it's not (even by his own admission) - that's what I find dangerous

If you look at the recently released footage from Iraq that has been in the past few weeks, this movie has been in the can for longer

and to see people cheering about it????

Sykk - Moore misleads (nicer word that lies) what makes you think he'll tell the truth about anything?

At least we know politicans are snakes

and Moore does make valid points - it's how he makes them that I have issues with

Michael Moore is a total fuckwit. He's a hypocrite and his "documentaries" are spin central. I have never seen such a distortion of the truth manage to achieve such credibility. People regurgitate his fucking nonsense like it was fact.

And no, i don't like Bush.

Take the bank scene in bowling for columbine. He fucked with that scene so much, that he may as well have hired actors and a studio and did it himself. That's how distorted the situation is from what really happened.

http://bowlingfortruth.com/bowlingforcolum...scenes/bank.htm (http://bowlingfortruth.com/bowlingforcolumbine/scenes/bank.htm)

Yet everyone will tell me how Moore came walking out of the bank with the gun that they gave him that very day, minutes after he walked into the bank.

Some of the stuff on that site appears to be no more than observation and speculation, but there are some interesting facts. That page is probably the best.

Michael Moore is in it for nothing more than the money, which is okay, but don't be fooled into thinking he's some crusader for the truth. He's as bad as, maybe even worse than, the likes of Rush Limbaugh.
