View Full Version : Great Political Quote

"The aim of politics is not to make people better or to alleviate their misery: it is to increase the power of one man or group of men against the power of another man or group of men. Our enemies are never as bad as we make them out to be, and we are never as good as we think. We're convinced that we're moral. And we know damn well that our enemy is only out for power and resources, but has no morals at all. Yet, we too, are out for power and resources. And our enemy, like us, has a moral sense. He uses that moral sense just as we do, to narrow aperture of this consciousness and ignore hiw appetite for power." - Morgenthau

I read this quoe yesterday, and like it as well:

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption
of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the
Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers
of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to
govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good
masters, but they mean to be masters."

Daniel Webster

It is true. I guess there are some people that go into politics with a genuine interest in making life better for the people, but they are few and far between, and the majority of them are corrupted by power. The entire point of politics is to keep your job, or to get someone else's job. It's entirely self serving. The interests of the people are irrelevant. If they manage to actually benefit the people in one of their self-serving endeavours, it's nothing more than a bonus and an oppurtunity to win some more votes, but it's certainly not their goal.

I think most politicians believe they are making people's lives better - whether they like it or not ;-)

Have you guys ever seen a British show called Yes Minister? It's political satire. Extremely amusing, and it rings very true. Just watched an episode of it on UK-TV, as a matter of fact.

"I bear solemn witness to the fact that NATO heads of state and of government meet only to go through the tedious motions of reading speeches, drafted by others, with the principal objective of not rocking the boat."

This is a TRUE statement from a high-end political figure I used to do some consulting work for:

If you tell the truth you only get in trouble once, but if lie, you can keep in the papers for longer

That is one of the reasons why I don't vote anymore.

Yeah I'm hung like planet Pluto hard to see with the naked eye,
But if I crashed into Uranus I would stick it where the sun don't shine,
Cause I'm kind of like Han Solo always stroking my own wookie,
I'm the root of all that's evil yeah but you can call me cookie,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

We don't need no water let the motherfucker burn,
Burn motherfucker burn.
