View Full Version : bullshit in business

Talking to Joesho, interesting thought came into my mind:
the role of BULLSHIT in this business.

I wonder, would this business survived without bullshit? I see huge piles of it behind every success story on the adult net
(some non adult too!)

Bullshit became such an integral part of internet business life,
we practically don't even notice we swim in the bullshit ocean.

...and if you wanna tell me, you, your proggy, your product uses bullshit which doesn't smell, or doesn't use it at all-
allow me to retort with:
B U L L S H I T ! ! !

This industry was built on bullshit and scamming.

Being able to survive will come down to sifting through bullshit, recognizing what is bullshit and what is reality, and then acting upon it.

JoesHO

Yeah, I agree learning how to wade through bullshit, can be very distracting too many at times .

and frustrating to say the least for many others.

People that understand, that there must be the necassary bullshit, and can seperate the necassary from the non necassary, sure seem to make it a lot farther in life, no matter what businees they are in

No wonder this biz goes well with Poker.

Was, not for the first time, watching the World Poker Tour the other night. When it got down to the last four in the four million dollar final, the announcer kept saying "These guys don't even need cards." It was just all down to pure gambit, postering, bluffs, counter-bluffs, and who could best bullshit and rattle the other guy.

Yep, just like here in adult land!. B)

This business would still be in the dark ages without bullshit. Myself, I keep it all aboveboard, but I can't totally condemn those who've bullshitted their way to the top and then managed to stay there. A lot of bullshitters are also innovators.

and there's some bullshit right there!

LadyMischief, I don't mean you are bullshitting so don't take this as an insult - but your statement equals bullshit ... its cryptic, worded to say that you wouldn't bullshit someone unless they bullshitted you first. Your response to the subject of bullshit is bullshit - even though you have the best of intentions in business, you don't always keep it 'above board' because 'above board' is relative depending on who is holding the board ...

For example - you are in the porn industry - that's not exactly 'above board' to most of this planet ... the terrorists who flew the plane into WTC thought what they were doing was 'above board' because Americans are evil ....

And besides, the question wasn't 'how much do you bullshit' or
'when is it ok to bullshit' - but that's what you answered :awinky:

Humans need food & shelter ... EVERYTHING else is bullshit - but life would be pretty dull without it ;-)

I actually think the bullshit factor is getting lower in this business now, as more and more of the cards are played and less and less cards remain to be seen.

If something comes along to really reshuffle the deck, you will see the bullshit factor go much higher again on that new situation.

LadyMischief - Sorry I don't know you personally and you seem like a nice sort

But here we go for the BS factor, found in 6 seconds or less

I see you promote Legendary Lars in your sig, can you say that progam has no BS?

I see it on this page http://webmasters.legendarylars.com/fronte...nd/programs.jsp (http://webmasters.legendarylars.com/frontend/programs.jsp) , you can call it good marketing but boil it down it's still BS

Poker face... self confidence... those are necessary in business, I think. I'd pretty much argue till I was blue in the face about never bulshitting anybody with my hosting company, former phone sex program, new billing company, paysites or anything else in my whole adult experience.

Perhaps that's why we've only got three vehicles at home instead of legions of exotic cars.... those are going to take a few more years! Never made an easy buck, unfortunately, but I do sleep well at night. Work hard, be persistent, smarter than the other guy or gal if you can be..

Okay okay - Bullshit Bullshit

Big Dick Sydrome, blah blah blah

Yeah this business has evolved it....

But - This business was really built on trust - trust that you are going to count my sales correctly, trust that whatever affiliate program is going to actually pay me.

Now - that trust has been tempered in the last few years significantly but there is still a lot of trust required.. Granted we all base on trust on bullshit but hey........ Its till trust.

There is a whole lot of difference between blowing your own horn, about accomplishments - and embellishing or making up lies. I have always considered the first to be bragging & the latter bullshit. Maybe everyone definition of BS is not the same.

It is just too bad that 75% or more, of what everyone does everyday; is to create a favorable perception of them or thier product or services. It is just biz..... and I guess necessary.

But, did you realize how much of everyday (even in your personal life) is spent trying to impress or please OTHER people, and not what YOU really want to say or do? It comes out often in what you wear, how you fix your hair, the car you drive, insincere compliments (because it is expected) and the list goes on......

It is a whole lot less stressful, when you finally can come to the conclusion that in your personal life - some of those things just 'don't matter.... It is more important that you like yourself & other people like you for 'who you really are.

New nick for our new program - been around for a while.. maybe the ToyBoy part could be a giveaway.

Must admit that I have never been a big time poster on Oprano, more the jerk who lurks.

Looking to change that.....

5 years in the biz helps in recognising BS, but like you said, and what I posted back on, it is PART of the business.

Gives a nice insight into the characters you are dealing with also.

But Serge,

Would you not agree that FAR too many people blur the lines between business and personal ?

For some people there is no line.. it's just straight BS all the way.

In fact they are the people I like most - so MUCH easier just to write someone off when the internal bullshit recognition meter hits the red zone immediately.

I might bullshit around from time to time, but NOT about anything of note.

Business is business and personal is personal, but ask me a question to my face and you ALWAYS get a straight answer.

Lindsay, from page 32 of The Mafia Manager ...

Some would advise: Do not go into business with friends or their children. Some would advise: Do not lend friends money or borrow it from them. We urge the opposite, however, but with all due caution. Why should a little friendship stand in the way of business? And if you ever have to deal harshly with a friend, you'll know his hangouts and habits, the bettter to facilitate any action against him you may want to take. Nothing personal, just business.

Ain't that the truth.

I reckon your family INSTALLS most of the buttons, so they are VERY well equipped to know EXACTLY which buttons to press, when to press them and in what order works best :hic:

Your distance factor brought an old song to mind...

I'm gonna walk 1200 miles, and I'm gonna walk 1200 more, just the be the man who gets as far away from your fucking door as possible

I sure hope the Proclaimers will forgive the liberties taken there with their lyrics.

Mmmm.... Bullshit...

Fact of life. As ubiquitous as air.

As Morpheus once said to Neo

Bullshit is everywhere. It is the wool that they pulled over your eyes to prevent you to realise that you're a sucker...

So I got into the industry because I'd rather put out my own than having to suffer that of someone else...

At least, I can control how much I put out, and make sure I stay in good terms with myself.
