I wonder if they have any plans to replace the line with a new model… Like when Ford dropped the Escort and started manufacturing the Focus, same engine and specs but with a different body shape and different price tag.

Oldsmobile was a brand who had different model cars under it.
Oldsmobile was like Cadillac or Buick.

The escort was merely one car model.

Serge,

I'm not sure anyone is really going to miss Olds. It is always a bit sad though when something dies off like this.

There's a business lesson here somewhere.

In the late 70's the Olds Cutlass was the best selling car several years in a row. However, they haven't really done anything new in the last 20 years. Instead they just slightly re-skinned other GM products.

The only thing remotely original they tried in recent history was the Aurora, but they missed the mark on that one and never really recovered.

I wonder if Buick can last as their geezer audience gets too old to drive. They're enjoying some additional sales right now as Cadillac has shifted their marketing to a younger audience. If you want a big boring car with a bench seat and steering column shift, Buick is only game in town....geezers love 'em!

i remember riding in an oldmobile for years as a little kid.

sad to see em go but im not too surprised, the buyers of this vehicle are dying out, just the name itself is a real hurt for the maker.

out with the oldsmobile, in with the new! :awinky:

HP,

Whaooooop... the Cutlass!

It's a little known fact that, under optimal conditions, a `76 Cutlass Supreme
can balance vertically, standing on end (on it's front bumper) for approximately
2.6 seconds. Precisely the time it takes the 16 yo driver to utter the words,
"Oh Shit"; before it comes crashing down on it's roof...

Ahhhh... mis-spent youth :bjump: :bdance: :bjump: :bdance: :bjump:

I drove an Olds 4-4-2 for six months while a buddy was overseas ... was a nice car, but it didn't mix well with my overweight left foot.

Cadillac has shifted their marketing to a younger audience.

Not so sure about that one. They've always aimed at the 50+ crowd. They are using Led Zepplin in the ads now, which is dead on target (music from when the 50+ crowd was in their teens and twenties).

Younger is definitely still a relatively term for Cadillac.

You're not gonna see 20-somethings cruising their lot. Unless they are rappers, pimps and drug dealers looking at Escalades. :cdance:

But I'm seeing a lot of 30-somethings and 40-somethings in the CTS and Escalade.

And the CTS-v and XLR are both pretty serious performance cars.
