Isn't that bascially all if not most of the "good" standups? What big names are missing?

I would put George Carlin 1st myself. Interesting list. Might switch some places but overall a good list.

A few people near the top that I do not think should be up there.

Roseanne Barr, and Ellen Degeneris. No way Barr is in top 10!

I totally agree.

they are ahead of Robin Williams and Eddir Murphy.

Plus it seems very weighted towards modern standups.

Hope , Benny , Burns seem wayyyyyy too low.

Have to agree with you on Eddie Izzard there Nick.... Morgan actually got me hooked on him WAYYYYYY back and I've been a fan ever since. We've been trying to get tickets to see him live for years. He needs to stop out in LA for more than a single show - he always sells out.

I think I've watched Dress to Kill 500 times on HBO alone... and I still laugh. He's THAT good.

Better list from Comedy Central than that list of 25 that Entertainment Weekly put out a few weeks ago. Now that one SUCKED. 100 is a better number, you piss off less devoted fans that way! :awinky:

Dana Carvey's standup is pretty good though, he should be more 'up' there.

I'm missing a few other GREAT ones (believe me, these are better than at least 20 on the list):

Stephen Lynch
Carlos Mencia
Rodney Carrington
George lopez
Pablo Francisco
John Leguizamo
David Spade
Mitch Hedberg (for the stoners among you)

Last but not least:
Brian Regan (truly hilarious)

I know more than these, but start downloading these first :-) I'm a standup comedy expert :bjump:

When this guy makes the list (even at 100)... you know they were really reaching to another "top list" to make a tv program.

What's next?

Top 100 celebrity hairpieces ever worn! Only on VH1!

This is just like trying to say who are the 100 greatest guitarist

Impossible

There is no criteria to rank artists by, it comes down to what you like and what works for you

All top whatever lists are in reality favorite, not greatest

I actually enjoyed watching the program as they had a couple comedians discussing the different standups.

I, personally would flipflop George and Richard and would move Bill Hicks up the list (if he had lived longer, he would be a HUGE star now and probably be higher up the list). I agree there are a few omissions: Mitch Hedberg, Jim Norton and Robert Schimmel

EDIT - nevermind, I missed Schimmel on the list and the tv show

I would say Bill Cosby is a little higher than that - I think you get some points for your influence as well and he certainly influenced Pryor, Eddie, Rock.

Not only do I own the DVD and have watched it several times, it was on my top movies of 2003 ;-)

Oddly enough, Jeff Foxworthy, who is the best known of the bunch was the least funny (he's still funny, but got owned by his two opening comedians).

I have an in-law who is Larry The Cable Guy's personna down to a T. I've met Larry The Cable Guy and when he's not onstage is actually a very intelligent and down to earth guy (and sidesplittingly funny)

Yeah, that was funnier than hell.

I liked Larry The Cable Guy just a little more than "The Tater", but he still had me with tears in my eyes during his act.

I think it helps to have relatives that you can go "ooh, that's just like..." when they'd tell a story.. ;-)

And Paul Hogan really was a classic when he started out in his 70's TV show "The Paul Hgan Show" <-- 4 joe ;-)

The Paul Hogan Show was good.

I remember when he had two chicks on the train flashing him and that dopey mate hanging round him.

And who can forget Pete and Dudley doing "So whats the worst job you ever had then?" or "Then he called me a cunt!"

Dayum.. didn't expect you to know about Hogan! Strop was his sidekick.

(I actually named one of my daughters after Strop's daughter, Liana, who was born about 1 month before mine.. we saw her name in the newspaper, and the decision was made instantly :inlove: )

The Moore/Cook skit that used to kill me most was "Wanking with the trainset" :P

I knew better than to look at that list.

Top 100 lists always piss me off.

I really did know better than to look at that list.

At least I agree with #1 - Pryor should get it hands down.

Carlin ahead of Lenny Bruce? I love Carlin - he's top 5 material - but I don't think so, since one of his most famous works (The Seven Words) was ripped off FROM Lenny Bruce.

A top 100 list without Red Skelton? Fagitaboutit.

Steve Martin in the top 10? Bah! Dick Gregory only at #81? Donkey balls.

George Burns below Dennis Miller, Sienfeld, and Red Foxx? Bullshit.

I knew better than to look at that list.

He's one of the few comedians who almost never did a routine you'd be worried about a kid of any age hearing, yet would have you laughing your ass off the entire time.

BTW ... I think you'll find that while Bill Cosby may have been a source of inspiration for the likes of Pryor, Murphy, and Rock - Dick Gregory was more of an influence on their comedy.

Andy Griffith shoulda been on there too ...

Pryor shouldn't be number 1. There's a difference between funny and filth.
Pryor should be shining and kissing Bill Cosby's shoes on that list - and Red Skelton's.
Take all of the cusswords out of Pryor's routines and you'd have about 20 words left total.

Two thumbs up here also for Wright - it literally hurts just to listen to him (my sides, that is).
