Maliciously create a thread title that impugns the integrity of a program owner for no reason and then don't acknowledge your mistake after the person you were championing admits you were wrong is what I'm guessing...

having read the interview.................
part seems to be merely a regurgitation of Serge's "Gold Rush" posts ,
part was the opinion of a rebel without a clue.
The rest however I must say , was total garbabge.

Hmmm, maybe you can clue me on as to what Gold Rush posts you are referring to. If you think I merely repeated what I read elsewhere, you are wrong.
I have never read anyone use the Gold Rush analogy (other than myself in previous interviews).
I am also interested in what you thought was garbage.

Good read baddog.
Your one of the few people out there that actually take time to promote yourself.
You wouldn't believe how many lazy motherfuckers there are in this business that bitch and moan, they make no money. But then again..all they do is sit on their ass and wait for the next coming of Christ or something.
They want the money and the webmasters.
But, they don't wanna take a few minutes of their time to do whatever they need to do, to get them webmasters.
Sad, but true.
Fuck them all...let them rot on the unemployment line.

Maliciously? Yeah right. I was going on what was told to me. I di dnot feel the need to bump the thread back up to page one after PC made her post.
That would have served no purpose since most people don't read the entire thread anyways, so it would have only done more damage to FC than anything.
Oh, and for the record, the interview was set up in Phoenix, so it had nothing to do the the PC vs FC thread.

Just as a follow up (to Diamond Jim, since he seems so concerned), I asked PC if she minded if I bumped the GFY thread to retract my comment (even though there really is nothing to retract), and she said she would prefer if the issue dropped from the boards.
I will abide by her wishes.

1) you contradict yourself with the dates..
Gold Rush started in 448-49,
and LS opened the store in 1854...long after the rush was over
;_)))
2) here what and whom your are confusing him with:
http://www.pbs.org/goldrush/discovery.html
The Gold Rush needed a booster, and Sam Brannan was the man. A San Francisco merchant, Brannan was a skilled craftsman of hype. Eventually, the Gold Rush would make him the richest person in California -- but Sam Brannan never mined for gold.
He had a different scheme -- a plan he set into motion by running through the streets of San Francisco shouting about Marshall's discovery. As proof, Brannan held up a bottle of gold dust. It was a masterstroke that would spark the rush for gold -- and make Brannan rich.
JoAnn Levy, author "They Saw the Elephant"
"When he started racing through the streets yelling, "gold, gold in the American River," he wasn't planning on digging for it. He was planning on selling shovels. And the first person who sold shovels got a lot more gold that the person who had to dig for it."
Brannan keenly understood the laws of supply and demand. His wild run through San Francisco came just after he had purchased every pick axe, pan and shovel in the region. A metal pan that sold for twenty cents a few days earlier, was now available from Brannan for fifteen dollars. In just nine weeks he made thirty-six thousand dollars.

here is what you probably was reffering to,
alas, the source of it is...a LEGEND:
http://www.pbs.org/goldrush/goldcountry.html
King of the wheeling, dealing entrepenuers was Sam Brannan. The man who pulled the trigger on the Gold Rush was expanding his sphere of influence -- and earning unheard of profits. While miners talked of gold, Brannan shrewdly bought up carpet tacks -- every tack in California. By cornering the market, he could extort huge profits, a technique he executed flawlessly -- over and over. But Brannan was only the first in a long line of entrepenuers who made their fortunes without digging for gold.
In 1853 -- according to legend -- this man stitched a pair of pants out of canvas; sturdy pants that later became popular with the miners -- very popular. His name:Levi Strauss. But during the Gold Rush, Strauss was best known for his prosperous dry good business. It wasn't until 1872 that he added a critical innovation to canvas pants, the metal rivet -- a breakthrough that would change the course of American fashion.
This New York butcher decided one day to walk to California. Eventually, he opened a meat market in Placerville -- and later took his profits to Milwaukee, where he set up a meat processing plant. His name was Phillip Armour, and the Armour meat packing company became one of the nation's largest.
Armour's neighbor in Placerville, was an enterprising wheelbarrow maker who dreamed of bigger things. After saving every dime for six years, he left California for his home in Indiana. There, he plowed his profits into the family wagon-making business.
The man's name was John Studebaker -- and the family enterprise would go on to build covered wagons for the Oregon-bound pioneers, and later -- automobiles.
These two businessmen also looked west and saw opportunity. Sensing the unsettled atmosphere in California -- they offered what many miners desperately wanted: stability. The offered secure, honest banking, transportation, even mail delivery. They were Henry Wells and William Fargo. Their company, Wells Fargo, became a giant in the banking industry.
The most famous celebrity of the Gold Rush era came to California as a complete unknown and took a job writing for the San Francisco "Call." It wasn't long until his fanciful story about a frog jumping contest in nearby Calaveras County thrust him into the national spotlight. His name: Samuel Clemens -- Mark Twain.

Not really sure why I am arguing this point with you, however, Levi Strauss was selling his pants (made out of tent canvas) before he had enough money to open his first store.
He was a kid, newly arrived to CA, with the intent of selling tents and wagon covers. The pants idea came as the result of a miner complaining that pants wore out too fast mining in the mountains.
While gold was indeed first discovered in 1848, and the rush began in 1849, this lasted several years. Strauss arrived in 1850, and the Gold Rush was still going strong.
With all due respect, I am sorry, but being a 5th generation Californian, born in San Francisco, and rather proud of my heritage, I highly doubt you are going to school me on California history.

Vick,
I have never understood how a cj makes money. I do know how to make money from them by offering them value for their dollar. Go with what you know. Honesty and trust have always held a lot of importance to me. Sorry that is how it is.
To me it is easier to make money if you are honest. I led my life of crime in a prior life, yeah the money was easy, but having to look over my shoulder was a PITA. I will stick with my current path, thanks anyway.
If you don't think fucking with surfers is what has caused most of our recent problems with Visa, then I don't think you are paying attention.
Telling newbies there is no money to be made doesn't work. I would rather have them trust me, become my affiliates, and generate a handsome income, thus filling my coffers in the process. If no one else wants them, I will gladly take them off your hands.
I have no idea who Raw Alex is, and have never read anyone else use the Gold Rush analogy. I however have used it in prior interviews, which I can provide the links to if desired. To be honest, I have done reports in fucking grade school about the Gold Rush and my knowledge of life in the Gold Rush towns and who made the money is something I have known for at least 35 years. I don't need to read someone elses post on some board to come up with these ideas on my own. For all I know, he read my interview and used my analogy himself.
I have been ripped off by enough programs in my early years to know what works for me. My program (SexPicturesPass) does not shave, and will not shave and my affiliates know this.
Who knows, maybe I will never end up being a multi-millionaire, but I am happy with my life, and I enjoy the fact that no one can come spouting off somewhere that I ripped them off. Even if they hate me, think I am a total asshole, they know I am an honest asshole. I have quit jobs because they put my integrity and reputation at risk. Does that make me a fool? Who knows.
I know that my ethics have set an example for my two kids, and that is really more important to me than any amount of cash.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Vick, I am looking over your post again, and wondering if you even read the questions I was giving the answers to.
Question: What do you think is the most important element necessary to build a successful website or web program?
You suggest the answer is "No making $$$$ is #1, if you're successful you make $$$"
Granted making money is important, but until you can get people buying or promoting your site/product it is a little difficult. I know that my reputation accounts for why I was able to bring in almost 600 affiliates in a little under a year. I guess I could make my money by pulling something like AdultCheck did, but again, I am in this for the long run.
As far as confusing the surfer goes, I look at a lot of sites that are submitted to my AVS. I see what makes sales and what doesn't. For some reason you decided to use just the first sentence of that reply. Try reading the entire response: I think when it comes to building successful websites the primary focus should be on not confusing the surfer. Make sure that your site clearly reflects what it is you are trying to sell. In other words, don't make a tour using pictures of Jenna and Aria, and try to sell them a membership to ebony, amateur midget paysite.
That is what I mean about not confusing the surfer. How many TGP galleries have you seen with an ebony gallery trying to promote an Asian paysite? It happens a lot. That is what I was talking about.
Hey, but thanks for reading it . . . it means a lot to me.
Carrie

BD, since I refuse to pay more than I have to just because of a name sewn in a spot no one will ever see, I only buy Levis when they're on sale. :) Why pay $50 when you can wait a few weeks and get 'em for $20 or so?
You're gonna have a hard time convincing these guys that completely straight and narrow is the way to go. If it works for you, fantastic - more power to ya! But trust me, the crowd here sees that talk as naive. They've patted me on the head and said "aww how cute" for saying the same things and what can I say... they have a lot more money than I do. Different strokes for different folks, your mileage may vary, and all that good stuff.
Legend has it that the reason saloon owners would put sawdust on the floors is so that gold miners would not notice when flakes or small pieces of gold would fall from their pockets, etc. onto the floor.
At the end of the night, the sawdust was swept up by the owner and inspected for any fallen gold.

Hey BD :)
Without shaving (either purposefully or inadvertently) please explain how you can track unique hits coming from an ISP that uses dynamic ips and server caching if the surfer turns off his/her cookies ? How do you guarantee that the webmaster who sent the surfer to the front door gets credit for the sale made 10 pages in an hour later ?

Does not surprise me. Since people were in the habit of paying for theiir drinks with gold dust (the bartender would take a pinch) the saloon owners would hire bartenders with huge hands so they could get bigger pinches.

If the surfer turns off his cookies (which I really don't think happens that often) then a different affiliate may get credit for the signup. Not a hell of a lot I can do about that.
That is not shaving in my book, shaving is when I take a certain percentage of your signups and just don't give you or anyone else credit for the signup, and just keep all the profit for myself.

Well, if you had not made false accusations (ie: I said Levi Strauss sold shovels), as well as throw in your mistaken impression about things (ie: LS got his start during the Klondike Gold Rush) it would make it a little easier. :)
However, I will admit that it has given me some food for thought, and in a couple hours I will have my revised "Oprano version" of my interview ready.

Ok, when you cannot associate the signup with any affiliate, then who gets the credit. If you are a typical program, then you get the credit (rightfully so).
This inadvertently becomes a shave of sorts. A certain percentage of signups to your site are not going to be trackable under any circumstances. If the program takes those signups, then the webmaster who sent them is not going to get credit for them. It is not a purposeful shave and a really really good program might go to lots of extra effort to make sure that if they can associate the signup in any way, they do. But there will always be a certain percentage out there that the program gets to keep for itself.

Like I said, if the surfer turns off their cookies, and is brought in by one affiliate, but ends up signing up through another one, that affiliate will get the credit for the signup. Nothing I can do about that. I do my best.

I don't know how your program works, I do know how ours works. I know exactly which site in our system has either brought in the surfer, or has made the sale (depending on if cookies have been turned off or not).
Our system is a little different than the average program. You would have to have to check it out I guess in order to understand.

ROTFLMFAO..................
I have been doing webtracking software for a long long time now. I can say DEFINITIVELY that there is absolutely no way to give credit on every sale to the appropriate webmaster, either the original sender or the next one in the line. I mean you might run a program that decides that when it can't assign a sale to give it to a webmaster, randomly selected or something. But I doubt very much that you are doing it.
I started in this side of the biz back when we paid per click, then when we paid per unique.
The problems in makeing tracking accurate are still there and no software running either client side or server side can remove the inherent problems associated with it from the net.
If you are only tracking cookies, then not all webmasters are getting paid for their sales. If you are going to the ip level when the cookies don't work, then you are getting more accuracy but it still cannot be perfect because of server side caching schemes.
If you are not letting a surfer join because they turned off the cookies, then you would solve the problem, but I have yet to see a program that would turn down a legitimate sale just because it cannot be tracked to an affiliate and the FACT is that there is no software yet developed that can track with 100% accuracy across the net.
