Well, I thought this was worth posting and seeing if I could get a few opinions on it, I've gotten few. My second sponsor related thread here, and how many times can I say it, I think it was worth posting.


Speculating IS important if theres a reason to speculate, and in this case I think there was. You may not think so, you may know pimpdog better than me who knows, and if so THAT is the kind of input that would be really worthwhile to recieve, thus a thread.

Speculating IS important if theres a reason to speculate, and in this case I think there was. You may not think so, you may know pimpdog better than me who knows, and if so THAT is the kind of input that would be really worthwhile to recieve, thus a thread.

First of all, I don't know pimpdog except by his posts on GFY. Suffice it to say that his methods of marketing his program very often fall short of my demographic by about 35 years.

If you want to know someone's opinion of a program you'll ask them privately. What you read on message boards is often only part of (or completely unrelated to) what you'll hear there.

When you begin your speculation, on a sponsor program, at least, based on something like "soandso was banned from GFY" I personally think you are basing it on just a little less evidence that the President of the United States used to get us into the war in Iraq - which is to say, less than none.

Now ... GFYers start threads based on that. Competitors often start threads based on that (and methinks that's sometimes quite deliberate on both their parts about 98% of the time). People with a bee in their coffee pot often start threads based on that.

You might be right, ya never know. I just can't see getting banned from GFY as being the catalyst to deciding to shave further down the road. I guess IMO if he was going to be shaving he'd already be doing it - it's more of a greed thing than a need thing. If it's there, why leave the money on the table? (In a shaving person's line of thinking that is.)
Plus there's all different ways to shave. Filtering out foreign traffic, or AOL traffic, etc... not just the more obvious %age of signups.

On a different board Trey asked once "if you don't promote EC, why not?" - quite a few folks stepped up and told him it was because of his uhh... "choice of marketing" tactics shall we say and the way he represented himself.
That was met with quite a few hearty laughs and more name-calling. Completely fell on deaf ears.

It also points out Gorgon's thought process.. Usually if a person viewing a situation comes to a conclusion like that it merely reflects his own views of what he would do in that situation. So I believe that I am safe in assuming that if Gorogon was running a program and he got banned on GFY that he would turn the shave on high and then just take the money and run.

Also, Gorgon, if shaving was a reason to not do business with a sponsor, there would be no sponsors in business. I don't give a shit who says they don't shave. There is no sure, 100% accurate way to give credit for every hit/unique/sale coming to a site period. There is not a sponsor out there who is going to take the "unknowns" and give them to the benefit of the webmaster, they are going to keep them for themselves, to do anything else would be a stupid, detrimental way to do business. All sponsors shave, whether on purpose with a built in "shaving algorithm" or incidentally because of the inaccuracies of hit tracking on the net. If a sponsor's shave seems too high, if you know you can get a better buck for your traffic elsewhere, then you move the traffic elsewhere. You don't move the traffic away because they "MIGHT" turn up the shave, you wait for them to do it.
