If asked , what would you say you have learned from this business.

(Someone just asked me) ;-)))

For me it is :

1.) Budget that this business ends next week
2.) Never ,ever , ever , try and have a "relationship" with "content".
3.) If it sends hits , it can be spammed.

:-))

Anyone else?

I learned that:
the more you make money for people, the more chances they fuck you
with MikeAI, Lord Aga and Nick being exceptions.

I also learned that people you share food and wine at the table with you, people who go out of their way to do something for you are your friends, everybody else are just "business associates"

...and you can take it to the bank
;-))))

What I've learned:

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

You meet the same people on your way up as on your way down, only the roles have reversed.

A smiling face is not necessarily a friend.

No one gets out alive.

cj

i've learned that

1) if you stop learning you may as well give up

2) at the end of the day, everyone is in it for themselves

3) if this business stops, the most valuable thing i've EARNT is a place at the dinner table of my friends, and they a place at mine

4) kissing ass only gives you brown lips

5) success comes in many forms, the least of which is money.

6) money can't make you like yourself, no matter how much of it you have.

Nickatilynx

Excellent one :-)))

No one gets out alive.

probably very very true...

the more you make money for people, the more chances they fuck you

That is very true , and at the same time very sad.

My head is a little thick right now and I know there's many more and better ways to express them but here are a few

Never stop.....learning or doing

Don't depend on anyone but yourself

It might not last forever so enjoy it while you can

Not all pussy is equal

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then..... it is most likely a duck no matter what anyone says

that people you share food and wine at the table with you, people who go out of their way to do something for you are your friends, everybody else are just "business associates" :okthumb: :okthumb:

If you're at the table for half an hour and you can't see who the mark is ...... it's you

Hope for the best and plan for the worst

Nothing is unbelievable, however a lot of it is bullshit

Gratitude many times has a very short shelf life

Try not to be surprised by anything

Anything can and will happen

When you depend on so many different things to be in line have a quick easy alternate for when one or more go wrong

Message board personalties are just that

Good people come in all walks of life

not sure I picked all these up in just this business but it sure stamped a lot of them home

Edit - p.s. the ancient Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" can really suck

p.p.s. - Nothing is forever

I've learned...

Nick's a crook (allegedly).

Serge always paid the best on clicks AND sold them the cheapest.

Don't take Scotty's night vision goggles.

MikeAI still likes less than a handful of people.

This shit won't last forever.

If Visa doesn't like you it won't last much longer.

And most importantly, pay attention, it is possible to get a clue once in awhile.

I'm old and I learned a lot of the things being mentioned in other dealings with people and business, but a couple of the things I DID learn in this biz are:

1) Not everyone in it is a sexual deviant. :awinky:

2) This is the most tolerant of "different" group of people I have ever dealt with. I remember my first show in Miami (1999 I think). I was petrified that no one would talk to me because I was just a plump middle aged soccermom and everyone else was in the "Porn Biz" (except Lee Noga B) ). I could not have been more wrong. :okthumb: If you're young, old, skinny, fat, FFN, Player, Player Hater, gay, straight, mixed - everyone is accepted (or rejected) strictly on their skills and personalities. It may have a lot to do with most of us "meeting" on the computer and not face to face, but it's one of the strengths of this industry IMHO. :rokk:]

You forget Brad "little weasel" Shaw is not in the business eitehr. He is a businessman. Didnt you see him with his suit on in Vegas? Problem is he siad he didnt do any business. I dont get it. Why would you fly all the way out there get dressed in your finest Sears and Robuck Olive suit and get yourself a booth that looked more like Pizza Hut than anything and not do any business? Maybe Vegas is the place to premiere your new breast augmentation?

As an aside someone says they are having happy hours and buying people drinks in different cities. At the last meeting of the FFN board we put together a pool as to how long it is before someone shows up at one of these things...gets drunk and reminds him that they havent been paid. If he belches out one of those high tech snappy retorts....our money is on him getting all of that ass whupped. I guess the only thing left to do is "bleed and sue".

Anyhow I should remind you that where as Mitnick can social engineer your ass....I on the otherhand have advanced powers of the "Jedi Mind Trick" beware reading my threads.

To err is human, to repeat is stupid

Friends don't always make the best business partners and business partners don't always make the best friends

If you've never failed, you aren't trying hard enough (even babe Ruth struck out once in awhile)

The people outside the business are much more deviant than the people in the business ("It's always the straights" ;-))

Trust the "crooks" the most -- they know you're looking so they will either not screw you at all or screw you the least

Trust the "honorable, loved-by-all longtimers" the least -- cause you won't expect them even capable of doing anything wrong, and so they will screw you the hardest and it will hurt the most

There are of course exceptions, but that has turned out to be the rule these days.

It is always just business even if it feels personal.

Traffic is the end all be all.

The asking price is always to high.

The normal looking people are probably the crooks. The strange looking people can probably be trusted.

It usually only takes 10 seconds to spot the fools.

There are some people in this business who can figure out how your making your money with only 1/10th of the equation.

In the end, you must make you own judgement on who to do business with. Can't say how many times someone has tried to convince me not to do business with someone that turned out to be great for me.

Don't listen to people who are doing well at something when they tell you how difficult some aspect of their business is. Or at least, realize they are more likely trying to dissuade future competition than do you a favor.

This business reminds me a little of the used car industry. :)

1) Everyones got to make money ( ie always leave enough in the deal for the next guy )

2) Closing the deal is just as important at the negotiation part.

3) Stick to the truth ( it tends not to come back around to bite your arse when your not looking :awinky: )

4) Know thy friends, enemies & aquaintenances and their strenghts & weaknesses ( that way you don't get to many nasty surprises )

:)

TGF summed it up much more concisely and eloquently than I could! What he says is at the core of everything else I've learend in this industry....

It's quite amazing actually when you think about it. The entire industry is created around deception and treating your customers as prey. And the attitude is take just as much as you can possibly get away with.

Sponsors advertise $30-$40 a signup. Everyone knows they have to shave and fudge the numbers to keep up the appearance of that payout, but it's all a wink nudge business as usual thing.

Would any other business put up with it? Imagine you were selling copper pipe. A contractor agrees to pay you $1000 per house. You ship him enough copper for 10 houses and get a check back for $5000. You ask, he says he was only able to plumb 5 houses. You notice that he has 10 new houses done though. This is the norm in our business....

It's not just sponsors though. Webmasters are fleecing the surfers and will stretch whatever rules the sponsors have for accepting traffic and signups to the absolute limit. And if the sponsors were honest, saying they could afford to pay an honest unshaved $10 per signup for instance, dumbfucks would say "that aint enough!" and keep on sending to the higher PPS programs.

Everyone fucks everyone, but as disfunctional as the whole thing is, it's still the best way to make money with traffic on the net.

3.) If it sends hits , it can be spammed.
Why spam a bot? :P

Disagree. Sometimes that's true. Sometimes not.

Anyways, thought of a few more items to mention:

When someone gives you advice, wonder what their angle is.

If someone promotes something heavily, 9 times out of 10 run the other way.

Know everyone's interconnections and everyone's histories with each other. (I feel sorry for the newer folks who don't have this knowledge. It will hurt many of them when they say or do the wrong thing to the wrong person.)

Bullshit is the fuel that runs this industry's furnace.

Don't act like everyone else. Act like yourself.

You can post emotionally, but only if you're in control (even if just barely) of your emotions.

Diversify, diversify, diversify.

If you're making a post and you think it MIGHT be a mistake, then it IS a mistake. Always without fail. So don't post it, walk away.

Programmers: You can't live with them, and you can't live without them.

If you think you have a great idea, at least 10 other people in this industry have the same idea. And at least 200 others will copy it.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. (Not original, but it works.)

There's more smoke and mirrors in this business than Hollywood, D.C. and a Vegas show revue combined.

Always have a backup plan. And a backup plan to the backup plan. Etc.

The one's who constantly have to announce how honest they are, are probably the worse crooks.

Not everyone in this business is dishonest, some people are actually poor.

Never tell secrets. Especially yours.

This needed to be at the beginning of this thread :P

A few I've learned.

For sponsers, the only number that's real is the amount on the check that clears the bank.

There's three things needed to succed in this business - traffic, content and billing. If you don't have one of them, you're buying from someone who does.
