Martha and Bucanovic are NOT the only people who were punished by the law suit.

what about ALL MSO investors?
what about KMart investors/employees?
MSO employees?
Manufactures who'll stop prodiucing her brand?
TV stations who will no longer carry her proram?
Magazine employees?

when all said and done the DAMAGE to USA economy will outcry all possible benefits of this law suit..

I tend to agree.

No doubt she was guilty.
No doubt.

However there must be loads of instances like this where they just go "fuck it!" and tell her not to do it again.

Somewhere , sometime , she must have pissed someone off and that person on 50k a year made it his lifes work to fuck with her.

very true ,

Years ago in London the senior partner of the firm I was with gave me the advice that if you are gonna deal with a blue chip firm and want to deal with the most go getting person , check down the list of partners.

When you get to a womans name ,write to her personally.

She will be 3 to 4 times more efficent than any man at her level.

Or she will be smoking hot!!! ;-)))

Either way , its a win/win ;-))))))

Should she not be held accountable because of that?

How much people should I employ or how much money should I generate before I can get away with murder?

Because a few of you people have it coming!

I believe that women should be treated equally to men under the law.

A jury with a majority of women found her guilty.

The woman card just don't play here, and neither does the "somebody jealous of her money was out to get her" baloney.

As far as the stockholders, employees of people with whom she had contractual relationships, etc ... that's the risks you take. Stockholders and employees can be damaged by war, fuel prices, incompetent management, weather/acts of god and all kinds of mean, nasty things.

Personally, I think she was punished for the incompetence of the way she went about the transaction and the attempt at a coverup.

taking in concideration her infruction,
and YES, I beleive she lied,
I'd let it die in the interest of those 500,000 affected and country as whole

you think country morale went up when one more crook was convicted in the army of many?

I have no doubt that she was made an example of - that is how the govt does things. The point being 'that if they will try Martha Stewart - they will try anyone!" She probably would have been better off with not as many women jurors. After all, she was a household word & a role model for women everywhere.... she tarnished that pedistal we put her on. Made us look bad... hahaha

Now, does she deserve jail? White collar, low risk criminals get minimun security prisons. Why should we waste our money? She has already been humiliated beyond return. Is she a threat to society? or do we have to carry on the example - that if we put Martha in jail - we will put anyone in jail? Waiting to see what they do with the Enron execs that ruined thousands and thousands of lives?

its not so much about Martha Stewart at this point as much as it was about restoring peoples trust in a financial system that is supposed to be fair and protect everyone and their investments. Martha Stewart made the choice to hurt investors... not the government. JMHO

You are right JR - but the example will never be made and faith restored until Enron execs are the example..... Martha was just a symbol, and realtively easy - Enron execs are the real test of our system. So, when are they going to 'bring it on! Probably not as long as we have an oil man in high office.

I don't exactly have a reputation for defending GW & his minions, but come on ... the complexity of the Enron case compares to Martha's little manipulations like a PhD disertation compares to a high school term paper. Give 'em time.

(Forgive me Ted, I have sinned ...)

Probably,

But those are probably the cases where the person admits they screwed up rather than maintaining that they are pure and clean......

Her biggest fuck up is maintaining that she has done nothing wrong while all the evidence says she did do something wrong.

It's basically the Leona Helmsley/Imelda Marcos syndrome...........
